Nav farts

Can't think of another name for it. I've had two situations now where the Nav system will not let me enter. Will only show planning screen, and even access to that is denied. Rebooting, ( shutting off the car & restarting ) didn't help. Satellite reception was fine ! After 10 minutes or so normal operation returned. Anybody experienced this

I have not. Is your car updated with TSB-63? There is a rather lengthy thread that talks about DIS problems before an update.

I have no idea re: updates. The car was delivered on March 2/09. Is there a way that I can tell what update I'm running on ?

My experience is that a proper reboot takes at least 10 minutes of waiting time. Restarting the car immediately after it's been shut down doesn't always fix these little gremlins....

My 4.6 Gen was also purchased in March, so I'd think it's running the latest official rev of the code. If I'm mistaken, someone please correct me.

First, Update T63 is only applicable to vehicles made until Oct. 1, 2008, since presumably after that date, they used that software in all of the new DIS installs. You can find the production date of the car in the driver's door sill.

Second, your dealer is required to perform all applicable TSB's prior to the new car delivery.

To actually check to see whether you need the update, follow steps 6-7 on page 5 of 10. To exit the service menu, press one of the function buttons (map, XM, whatever). If anything doesn't work after that, just reboot the car: shut it off, wait for 10-15 minutes, and then restart.

Continue to have the 'nav farts'. Everything locked out for 10-15 minutes. ( Nav, XM, AM etc )

This is actually the only problem I have had with the car and I have had it since the end of April. Sometimes-often-it simply won't come on. Dealership has re-booted the software but I still get locked up. Generally happens when I have been parked in my garage at work. I am really frustrated and am going to ask for new nav system if this keeps up. Apparently this has been a common problem.

A few of us on this forum have had electrical gremlins to deal with involving either the stereo, bluetooth, or nav systems. The common culprits are the head unit and (sometimes) the amplifier. You might want to ask the dealership to replace your head unit.

As an early adopter, I accept that these bugs exist and hope that they will be worked out some day. My Gen is now randomly setting off its alarm system when parked outdoors. It's annoying, and I need to get the car over to the dealership at some point to have them fix it - but that's the price one pays for buying a never-built model before. All in all, the car is awesome despite the occasional glitch.

Had the car in 3 times now and each time they have reset it or fiddled with something and it still freezes up. Even if I leave it alone it still won't come on. I think it's time to demand a new system. Really frustrating because I love the car. I get a "Genesis" moment/look every day. I have the wing package on mine and get the Bentley comment all of the time. Any suggestions /experience with this problem? thanks

I suggest you log a case with Hyundai Motors America on this in addition to pursuing your dealer to fix it. I would consider intermittent failure to start to be unacceptable, and they should be at the stage of replacing the unit.
