  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have 2012 4.6 gen with nav and all the goodies, it has 22,000 mile on it. When I back up the nav screen get darker and the top of the screen looks like T.V. interferences. This doesn't happen ever time. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Marty

Your car has a back-up camera which should display the area behind your car when reverse gear is selected. Sounds like it isn't working.

According to your description its actually working perfectly. The issue is that the area behind the car that is being displayed happens to have issues with darkness and signal noise. This may simply be a cabling issue.

I'm willing to put money on a wiring issue or the camera unit itself. Might need to be replaced.

Recently I have been having the same issue as the OP. I noticed it only happens when it is hot outside and when I take my car out around lunch time.
That has been the only time it has happened.

I went in for an oil change last week and described the issue to the dealer and they said they would have to see the issue them selves, since it doesn't happen all the time and it is a rare occurrence I doubt they would be able to fix it. I'm waiting for it to happen more often and then I'll make an appointment.

Just video it if you have a smartphone camera. They won't deny that evidence.

I live in one of the hottest cities in the USA and drive my Genny all times of the day but have never noticed what you and the OP are describing. Internal temps inside the car can easily reach 140F here in Phoenix.

I'm not sure what type of display the nav system has but if it is LCD it can be affected by heat. Several of my motorcycles had LCD displays and I noticed they would sometimes turn black if in direct sunlight long enough although just heat didn't seem to affect them.

I'm just taking a wild guess since it started happening once the temperature started heating up a little over here in Orange County, Ca. Nothing like Arizona and other places! :D

^ Mine did. They told me to drive it to them next time when it happens.

To which I replied..."in reverse...?!"

You need to kick it up a notch if the dealer rejects video proof.

Problems like this, relating to everything that happens in the Nav screen, are the primary reason I bought the extended warranty.

Thanks for all the the info. I bought the extended warranty. But I'll wait to see if it happens more often.

Regards, Marty
