  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
    If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I went to the M&SOFT website and found there is a software update available for the 09 Genesis nav system. Has anyone paid the $200+ to buy the update from M&SOFT? Seems kinda spendy, but if it works I think it's worth it.

I don't think anyone has been able to buy it at the website yet.

That outrageous price makes a good case for the non-tech version ( NO Nav ) and a portable GPS.
I for one, will not touch that price.:mad:

That's assuming that the GPS is the only reason why one would buy that package. There's no argument that it's a bad GPS compared to portables, but it's a.) not the worst OEM system and b.) pretty much every portable GPS these days beats nearly all OEM GPS.

I just looked, and while the update is listed, it is not yet available to purchase.

Check out the website, but haven't purchased the upgrade. I think the price should come down in the near future. And the GPS isn't as good as a portable, but it gets the job done is is better than a few other manufacture models.

Called my dealer (South Shore of Montreal) and the service manager said..."as soon as we get it, just bring the car in and we'll do it for free"

My dealer is so good to me.
That's the way it should be!!!
(This is the biggest Hyundai dealer in Canada)
:D

I took mine in for service and they did the update for me for free. They did have a hard time getting it installed so they had to give me a loner. Took a couple of days but I was also the first they had done. Not sure what all it changed nothing really looks different.

Shutterpro;
Need a little more info. What model year? Tech package?
Was the TSB done or was it a real map update?
Some confusion here because Map&Soft still says update is not available.
Thanks

Thanks- what is the name and phone # of dealer?

The dealer said it was the Nav update, that is really all I know. It consisted of installing 3 cds. I have the 09 v8 with tech package.

There Is no map update yet. The three disk update is a navigation firmware update not a map update. I was told by a Hyundai field engineer that the Genesis map update will be (1) a USB flash drive that is only usable one time or (2) on DVD with a vin specific password you would need to purchase from MAPNSOFT.

Hytech,

Your number 2 above is exactly how I read it in TSB Campaign 09-01-038-1

Page 6, Step 8-2 says; "HD Device ID" is shown as shown on the screen to the right (shows photo of screen). write down this ID number on yhour repair order, then select "OK". This ID number is required to get "Map Authentication Code" from the call-center or call-center website in step 9-1.

Page 7, Step 9-1 says; From the designated call-center; Make a call to the following number and ask to get the "Map Authentication Code". You will be asked for the "VIN', "HW device ID" and dealer code if you are a dealer. (Then it gives the phone number)

(also, the "if you are a dealer" implies that those other than a dealer can do this, paying beaucoup bucks for the three discs - as for me, I'd just rather have a dealer do it, paying them to do the update and not worry about me making an error).

The tsb you quoted is not a tsb it is a Recall and it is for dealer stock 2010 vehicles only. if you call in the vin # they will not give you the code if the vehicle was already sold. This recall is to fix a freezing issue and slow map loading. This recall is for dealer stock vehicles only just incase they are selected for the JD powers servay.

Hi Guys;
First of all, you would think Hyundai would have someone monitoring this site as there is a wealth of info and input available directly from Hyundai owners.
They would also be able to eliminate a lot of the confusion that exists, especially regarding the NAV system updates.
This current odyssey of frustration regarding the NAV updates tracks back to January, OF 2009!!!, and is characterized by repeated statements, reportedly from Map&Soft, promising an update "by the end of the month". They compound their lunacy by posting availability of an update on their website- and then stating it's "not in stock".!!!
I , like many, dislike being screwed but absolutely hate being lied to. It has now become a matter of principal and amplified perseverance to get this resolved- although, to be honest, I really don't use the damn NAV system and, if I really needed directions, would rely on a $200 Garmin Nuvi which I know is accurate.
