  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Navigation and Audio Complaints: I Don't Get It

I don't get all the complaints about the Genesis' navigation and audio being so bad. I have used navigation and audio systems in many cars (Toyota, BMW, Infiniti, Honda, Lexus, Audi, and Garmin handhelds). There is not a material difference between them. They all have their individual quirks that I wish were different, but all the quirks and faults are offsetting. The one fail I have seen is with Toyota and Infiniti that effectively disable the nav systems when the cars are in motion.

Granted, I have not had a failure with mine, but all the others have failures too.

I don't see te problems others see. For every Genesis complaint, I bet we could come up with offsetting complaints in the others.

Nav - Once I enter State I enter Street?? Really? Do you know how many River Rd, River Street, River Lane, etc.. there are in Tennessee?

Audio - wish it would tell me track names on the discs. Relatively minor complaint.

Personally I don't either. I use voice commands quite a bit and it works 90% of the time if you speak clearly and take your time. About as good as any other built in nav I've used and better than many.

NAV: if you are traveling in the same state you are always in, hit the voice command button and say "enter city" and it will bypass the state > street commands.

Audio: it will display the names of the songs on the CD's given that the information was put on the CD with the track. 3 of 6 of my discs will display the track names.

My Driver Information System "wheel" stopped working. It still clicks, and it inputs, left, right, up, and down. But the "turn or spin" function does not work. (used to select letters in GPS mode) Did anyone else have this issue? It seems like a small issue, but, there are plenty........

My only b!tch was that you have to scroll page by page to get to the artist you want to listen to on your iPod. With over 600 artists, this takes a loooong time.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!

That really sucks. I hope I don't have any issues with mine as my 3 yrs, 36K mile warranty is up!!!!

Agree with the OP, but I only use NAV a couple times a year. No big deal to enter destinations as demanded. Even then there are workarounds like spoken commands, or even entering a POI near the destination manually.
As for the audio, I use DVD-A' s in the changer exclusively. Superb sound, fantastic surround, and now even pictures(!) in the 2014 (while not in D).
Streaming from iPhone is fine, playing my iTunes is fine with cable or not, playing Pandora, Songza, iTunes Radio, etc. all work just fine.
Gimme a Garmin? No thanks.

Little suggestion for you. Make folders broken down by the Alphabet. I have stuff like "#, A-C, D-E, etc." and then have your artists in there. That is what I do and it makes scrolling through artists much more manageable :)

Or, I could just hold down on the Infiniti Controller, and let it scroll through the alphabet; not just individual artist names. Funny, it functions not unlike the iPod scroll wheel that it is intended to mimic. ;)

This is good to know, I'm sure going to try it!! ... TY!!!

NP! That is how I do it too. Report back with results :)

Crap! Forgot you got the M. It's been a while since I've been here :o lol

About to have our 09 in for a DIS knob replacement for the second time...in two years. Click up/down, but rotation does not work...again.

+1 (x 20000000)

I really need to learn the navigation commands, because I agree that entering a state, then a street name is REALLY, REALLY dumb.

Really.

Time to bust out the OM!

Anyway, back to the original question ;) Internet forums do increase the number and severity of complaints and hates dramatically, if allowed, and Genesis Owners has very little policy to prevent these endless whiner's and hater's threads. Essentially it's spam/trolling, and some of it might even be funded by rival car enthusiasts using outsourced posters. You'd be surprised as to how much content on the web that seems legit is bought.

It's even worse over on another website, "[g]en coupe dot com". The unofficial official policy there is to hate on the stock Coupe, particularly the far more powerful and desirable V6, openly ridicule anyone posting who stays stock, and promote American-made snake oil mods by the site sponsors.

On this forum, the hater spam strikes me as a lot of people who don't actually own a Genesis, or it's their freakin' dad's car and they have nothing but time to get online and post spurious complaints to get us all riled up. A true adult who bought a $30-50k car would be a bit more decisive in life than to have looked at, bought, or kept a supposedly awful car and let their only outlet be a low-traffic Genesis forum.

Personally, it's turned me off this site more than once, as 90% of the discussion seems to be Sedan-only and "I hate this car" crap. Yet, because it's a small forum and we kinda get to know each other and have actual discussion one in a while, I come back. I think the site policy needs to crack down on spam trollers who are clearly talking junk.

On the Premium Nav you can enter info in any sequence.

How did I miss this reply?!

Where to start...hmmmm...

Well, let me assure you, Top Gear, that we have been much more strict as of late about spam posters. The problem then lies within our hands of what to do with them. We try to give people the benefit of the doubt and keep this forum increasing year after year. This place does not have a lot of traffic, you are correct. However, I am more than willing to believe that this site is among the authority when it comes to Genesis Sedan information.

Why is this place focused on sedan? I have no idea. It just happens that way. When I was on Nissanclub that place was focused on Altima's. Even though it had subsections for EVERY nissan, Altima owners just flocked there. It just happens.

As for people that come on here and complain...yea. That, honestly, is why forums exist. It is for people to complain and then find a solution to their complaints. It happens and that is where we all bond, and learn.

Also, if you take a look at the people who have complained enough, you will realize that many of them bought a different car. However, they still stay here to spread the knowledge they acquired through their ownership, and I thank them for that.

Hope this clears up some questions Top Gear. If you have anymore concerns, please feel free to PM me about it.
