  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Navigation Personal Pin Code?

Driver Information System (DIS) is the superset of the Navigator and all the adjacent electronics. I don't know if the DIS is only on the tech package or tech and premium, but its the whole integrated set of dashboard goodies

I was joking about "What's a DIS?" because folks often forget that others here have different models of the Genesis. Only the tech package models have a DIS. I'm lovin' being DIS free.

Ah, you got me. Point taken.

In all seriousness, this feature is really a waste of time. GPS/maps used to have pin access when they were standalone units. Why? Because when someone did a smash and grab, breaking into your car and swiping your GPS, they KNEW you weren't home. While they were in there, they could grab your garage door opener off of the sun visor, and have (possibly) unrestricted access to your house. THIS is a threat, and all portable GPS units (and any smartphone for that matter) should be protected with at least a PIN.

For a BUILT IN unit on the other hand, unless you run into someone who is on 'America's Dumbest Criminals', they won't be stealing a 30-60k car, and then driving it TO THE OWNER'S HOUSE.

Think of all the steps involved in this scenario...
1) break into the car
2) bypass the alarm when they open the door without the key
3) start the car bypassing the proximity key
4) figure out how to access frequent destinations/work the nav system
5) guess which address in the GPS is your home, and not someone else's home
6) drive, like an idiot, to an address that is related to the crime of stealing the car
7) find the home link on the mirror and press the correct button

Most criminals are after a quick buck. If they want to rob your house, they can do it without taking your car. If they steal your car, it's because they want your car (or parts on it) and NOT to rob your house.

I'm so tired of asking a simple question and getting everything BUT the answer. Instead I get treated like an idiot and then given suggestions that either don't apply or are not relevant to the question asked. I try to be helpful in these forums and not belittle people - and then, when I tell them to stop treating me this way and just answer the question, I'm the jerk. Ok thanks got it.

Nope, no personal PIN that I can find. Hope this helps.
