  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My navigation system will no longer speak to me. Has anyone else had this happen? I have checked and double checked the volume control. I noticed this three days ago. Last night it was a real problem. I was lost in down town Miami and the navigation map was impossible to follow without the voice guidance. Trying to follow the map without any voice guidance had me going around in circles.

I know how to work the system. Mine no longer works so I don't need tips on things that I may be doing wrong. My system no longer works.

Just want to know if anyone else has had this problem.

Between the suspension and these electrical accessory problems, it seems as though the Genesis was released a bit to early. Keep us posted as to what the service department says about this. I really love this car, but, these are the kinds of issues that would drive me crazy and lead to buyer's remorse.

The volume conctrol must be raised while the voice is talking, otherwise you are just raising the radio volume. Hard to tell when the navigation is talking to you if the navi volume control is too low. This happened to me when I first picked up my car. Could not hear the navi speaking to me. Then I noticed that if I listened very close, it was speaking, but very low. I waited until it started to speak again, and turned the radio volume control up, and the voice was not loud.

This same volume control is used for everything. AM/FM/XM, Navi, Bluetooth Ring for incoming call, Bluetooth talk, etc. Everything.

My advice is to watch your screen, and when you see that it is calling for a turn, turn your volume control at the same time. That is what I did.

1. Not all of us have "suspension problems"!

2. Not all of us (read; very few) have "electrical accessory" problems! What happens is that the DIS is complicated, and even if you are a young guy who understands it all, it is not user friendly. For an old guy like me, well lets just say that it takes me longer to understand how it all works, and I'm still learning.

As I said I don't need any tips on how to work the system but apparently you do.

There is a seperate volume control for the navigation system. As I said I have checked it and double checked it.

When the system is working properly it mutes the radio and the navigation voice guides you. Right now the radio does not mute and there is no voice guidance.

You can turn voice guidance on/off separate from the navigation volume, but when that is turned off you would see a mute icon under the compass.

As Rosanne Rosanadanna used to say (or was it Emily Latilla)
"Never Mind" :D;)

Ok, I stand corrected. I do need tips on how to work the system. You are quite correct. The system was muted. I was sure you were wrong but you were correct. It took a while to find the menu to unmute the system. I have no idea how the system got muted.

Thanks so much! You saved me an embarrasing trip to the dealer.

Your welcome, That setting is described at the end of page 177 on the DIS manual.

My partner is now saying that maybe he muted the system. When I asked him about it he said, "Oh, maybe I muted it. That sounds like something I would do. I hate that thing barging into my music all the time." He was with me when I was going around in circles in a not so nice part of Miami swearing at the system last night but he couldn't offer up the fact that he "might" have muted it then so I would know to try and figure out how to un mute it or have him do it. He would rather listen to me swearing at the thing than listen to it guide me home.
