  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Navigation System

Do you have denchers or something? Maybe take them out and give it another try?:D

First of all I want to complement you on adding to the discussion. Tomorrow when your in your auto, I would like to know if you can get Eau Claire, WI on the first try. I could not.

HAVE ANY OF YOU TRIED TO NAME A SPOT AFTER LOCATING IT ON THE MAP VIA CURSOR? MY TOUCH SCREEN STILL INSISTS ON STATE ADDRESS STREET AND SUGGEST SOME THAT ARE COMPLETELY BOGUS. I TRIED TO MARK MY HOME AND THE ADDRESSES WERE USELESS. WHY CANT WE USE OUR OWN TERMINOLOGY TO NAME A LOCATION; RESTAURANTS, BANKS ETC.?
OBVIOUSLY I AM STILL TRYING TO LEARN THE DAMN THING, BUT HAVE MUCH EXPERIENCE WIITH GARMINS AND MERCEDES GPS...

GREAT CAR! WHY DID THEY TRY TO "REINVENT THE WHEEL" WHEN IT CAME TO THE NAVI?

It has to go into the address book when you try to mark a location.

Whenever we talk about our Navigation System on our cars, Please please mention if your Navi System is the DIS System, or the Touch Screen System. All 2009's are the DIS System. 2010's can have either system.

They are different, and programming is different.

I have misplaced my navigation book for my 2009 DIS Genesis. How do I edit an address in the navigation? Please help. I don't want to delete it, just edit it to a new address. I would appreciate it.

The vehicle manuals are also available for download at hmaservice as pdf file. A pdf file makes it easy to do a word search to get quick answers. I have the pdf in my Android phone.

A response to your 2-year old comment won't help you, but it might help the next reader.

What you need (and I do too for some cities/streets) is quick access to the speller. If you start voice nav on the Tech/DIS with "enter city", you can get to the speller (the hard, slow way) on the third false try. When asked for your city, say "junk" or any other one syllable word that will keep the search short. When the system gives you the results of the search for "junk", say "correction," and you will be prompted to "Please say the city name" again. Say "junk" again. The system will give you the results again, and you say "correction" again. On the 3rd or 4th try, the system will prompt you with "Please spell the city name." You reply "e-a-u-c-l-a-i-r-e" and you're done.

No magic to the word junk, it's just a one-syllable word that keeps the search time short. I've also tried "ex", and it works OK.

I'll bet there's an "easter egg" code word that you can use in place of the
word 'Junk" that will get you to the speller on the first try, but I don't know what it is.

Actually, there's a pretty easy way to cancel Navigation if you have the tech package with DIS. Press down on the DIS knob while on the map screen. From the menu that pops up, "suspend route guidance" is already pre-selected so you just have to press down on the knob again. Admittedly not the most intuitive thing if you don't know that menu is there, but once you know it's quick and easy. I believe somebody also mentioned in one thread that "suspend guidance" works as a voice command, as well..

I was just about to say this! Perfect! The Genesis nav isn't bad at all. You just have to know the controls and it works great.

I have a 2009 Genesis 3.8 w/o navigation system. What is the best way to install a navigation system. I've heard of Unavi 2x (problems?) Is it possible for dealer to install original unit or unavi x2?????
What would you suggest. I have always been leary of in dash units due to cost and lack of updates. I have looking at buying a new Genesis sedan, Azera or Kia Optima but I am looking to keep the car for a couple of years but have a 'different' look inside.

Comments please

After several normal trips in my Genesis, I thought the nav was decent. After a long, and unusual trip, this is just junk. I've tried to enter adresses that have been there forever, and the unit won't even accept the address. I've also chosen a different route that it planned, and instead of recomputing like my Garmin, it just keeps recalculating U turns to get me back to where I started. I've even tried to go to a city, not knowing an address, and it won't let me do it. It wants a street address, so I have to keep entering common street names until it likes one. This thing is retarded, and I refuse to pay them $400 to upgrade it every year. I'll just set my Garmin over the top of it. Looks like it may fit. This thing operates so bad, an upgrade wouldn't help it, I don;t think.
