  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Navigation Unresponsive & Constantly Freezing

Guys - here is a whole thread about this on the G80 forum.

I have a 2015 3.8 ultimate and i've been posting over there about it. You all may want to start posting there also. long story short, this mostly likely some sort of incompatibility b/w XM traffic and data signal (something new they're transmtting) and Hyundai head units with the 9.2 inch screen and the center console mounted knob controller.

Not sure if they can fix this without some major hardware swaps to the head units. As well all know, they will claim that an OTA software fix is forthcoming etc.

I have already sent an email to Mr. Munoz (CEO) and the VP of Customer relations at Hyundai and awaiting a response on this serious product liability issue.

Ps. I had my headunit replaced last friday and no joy. still the same issue. i also updated my map software to v.14 and still no luck.

oh im almost positive its faulty software, not a hardware issue.

Mine did this before it died. It got progressively worse. over about a month it went from annoying station freeze, to total lockups and then blackouts. Required replacement of the system. I had and aftermarket extended warranty that covered it, but was told it was something like $2600. No idea how long the replacement will last, but that was 1-1/2 years (30,000 miles) ago.
This started happening to me about 3 weeks ago. I have 67,000 miles on my 2015 3.8 AWD Ultimate. The first sign of problems for me is when the system hung during startup and performed a reset twice before coming online. The first freeze occurred about an hour later. My system tends to freeze when I’m playing Sirius/XM or talking on the phone using Bluetooth. I can access the Home Screen, but the Sirius/XM, Nav, and FM/AM buttons do not respond.

My new unit starting doing this about 3 weeks ago too, there is a thread somewhere on here about others discovering the same (new) behavior, and concluded it was a software issue, either Sirius XM is sending bad data that upsets the unit, or the data is good but the unit isn't working correctly (not compatible with the new data). It was mentioned that Genesis and SIrius is aware. The wide spread nature and consistent timing of this further indicates it's not a hardware problem, but rather a software one that won't be fixed until a bug is fixed.

Mine has done this less often than you have described, and a hard reset has fixed it if I wasn't willing to wait the 5-10 minutes it takes to unfreeze. It has only done this 3 times since this bug came out.

Mine hasn't quit outright, but sometimes it refuses to change satellite stations...

Same here on my 2018 G80. Dealer said they are aware it’s a Sirius issue and even received an email from Sirius about it. When I called Sirius before having the dealer pick up the car, they told me it was definitely a hardware issue for the dealer. Obviously, the customer service people haven’t gotten the memo!

Mine is slowly getting worse - it used to be only occasionally I'd have satellite tuning problems (solved by a key cycle), now it's almost constant... WTF?!

Deleting Sirius/XM Traffic/Info from my account worked (for now). I found it necessary to get a Refresh Signal though.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Same happened to me, I downloaded updates on a USB and updated the firmware. Working fine ever since. Dealer wanted to swap out head unit for over 3k...

First, thanks to BillN for post #196 in another thread which alerted me to this fix. I also spoke with my Genesis Service department who were useless. Genesis is taking no ownership to help deal with this issue at all but that's for another time.

First I logged into the Genesis Mapcare (MapnSoft) account here: Genesis Mapcare | Customer Login

Then I had the following chat and got the problem resolved.

Me

My Genesis G80 Nav screen is hanging up and affecting XM radio selection, etc. I am told that the problem is with downloads of travelink info and that you can stop the downloads until the problem is fixed.

After the Bot couldn’t respond correctly I had an option to talk with an agent.

Oliver

Hello, this G80 is the 9.2" touchscreen correct?

Me

Yes

Oliver

Thank you, and you are correct that the Sirius XM Travel Link data is causing an issue with these vehicles. We are happy to help but we will need certain info to proceed.

We will need the vehicle VIN, a photo of the System Info page in the vehicle showing the Map version and also we need to see the SW version to make sure the data is recorded and reported correctly. Finally we will need the Sirius XM ID number so we can have the service disconnected from the vehicle.

Me

Sirius XM ID (I typed my ID)

VIN (I typed my VIN)

Oliver

Wonderful, the final thing that we would need is the photo showing the map and sw versions the vehicle is currently running.

Me

Can you give me a few minutes to get that for you?

Oliver

Absolutely

Me

Here (I attached a photo)

Are you able to read the info?

Oliver

Yes I am, thank you very much

Me

Perfect.

Oliver

One moment please.

OK, I can resolve this chat and create a ticket with our conversation and info. I can escalate this to have the service disabled and then can follow up with you once I receive a response. Was there anything else that I can assist with in the meantime?

Me

No Oliver, but I really appreciate the help.

Oliver

You are most welcome, I do hope you have a wonderful rest of your day Jeff. You should receive an email soon stating a ticket has been created. If you ever have any questions you can email me directly from the ticket, or call/chat is available as well.

Me

Thank you! Great service. And really appreciated. You have a great day too!
