  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Navigation Voice Commands

Makes me question Consumer Reports validity.

While once the most reputable source for reviews and consumer advice, they are not what they once were before the explosion of the internet. I have found several examples of where they were either wrong, misinformed or unaware on various items. Like any good research these days, they are but one point of consumer advice and are best when analyzed with other sources.

I think the biggest problem here is the people who are used to the gen 1 system and are frustrated because it does not work like it always has, myself included. Commands are more simplistic and quite easy but you do need to learn them, crap manual does not help either. Heck, I had problems with navigation because I kept saying navigate however the gen 2 wants more simple terms like go home instead of navigate home.

The old system had you dial phone numbers in 3 separate sequences for the 12 digit phone number. The new, you simply blurt out the entire number and it's there. No doubt about it, the new is much better not to mention the G2 bluetooth clarity is as perfect as it gets

Even the using the new command structure it’s simply not as reliable or user friendly. I’ve tried most if not all of the new commands even made a cheat sheet to keep in the car. Command accuracy has been spotty at best. Case in point even in expert mode saying “Map” doesn’t just get you there you also have to say “Yes” for acknowledgement. What about the command “Exit” how has that worked for you? “Cancel Route” takes a couple of shots. I am beginning to think like it was brought up before that microphone placement and sensitivity are playing a large role in this problem. Unlike the older Genesis you can now see the microphone input sensitivity and it looks quite active even before a command is given. Haven’t tried with car off will do that see if it makes any difference. Don’t even get me started about the command to call up a saved route which was so easy before and now requires manual input which of course means pulling over to take eyes off the road to complete. Agreed the blue tooth system is considerably better now but only for initial setup after that it also suffers from indecision and frequent repeats. Maybe it’s that New York accent. Don’t get me wrong I really like this car knowing these limitations I can live with it because the car is that good. Maybe they’ll see fit to update this system in the future.

I personally don’t find the voice command system as good as my old Genesis and certainly lacking for a car of this state of advanced technology. Makes me question Consumer Reports validity.

I agree that the system is nowhere near their review might lead you to believe. Because of the way they didn't separate out the POI comments I wonder if they were using the google/bluelink system for everything. If so that might explain their results. While on the trial for guidance I noticed that it was MUCH better than the true in-car nav commands. It really did accept just the (quickly spoken) name of a pub that's only been there for about a month. With a name like Public House and the newness of it I wouldn't have even been disappointed if it didn't find it -- my iPhone didn't at the time, but the google interface nailed it. At the same time I'll say 1251 Something street into the non-google controls and it won't even get the number right.

I actually haven’t even tried the google/bluelink approach it appears it merits some attention.

All my GPS says is " SORRY I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND THAT " The car must be stopped and in park to type in destination. Hard to do when your on an interstate because the GPS "DOSEN'T UNDERSTAND THAT" GPS is important to me, if I knew the Genesis GPS was so difficult to use I would have bought another make car. I have 2 friends who like the Genesis and were waiting for the 2019 to come out, after seeing how difficult the Genesis GPS is to use, they both are contemplating a different make car. I reverted to use my phone GPS sooo much easier If I could give this Genesis G80 back I would. Very disappointed in my Genesis Genesis should take a lesson from phone GPS

PS I followed the manuals. One service adviser couldn't get it to work properly.

Are you using the right commands ?

1. Say " Search Address "
2. Then say the City-Street-House Number.
3. It then gives you options to go back or select the address and plan route.

I find it works OK, even with my Scottish accent.
