  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

we'll after 29k on my 2009 4.6 genny, the dunnlaps are looking on the bald side. gonna look for some new ones possibly next week.

can someone reccomend a good tire for dry so cal driving ?
my criteria is maintaining a good grip like the dunnlaps gave me but also keeping the noise way down w/ a smoother and a bit cushier drive.

thanks

I would stay away from so-called "summer tires" since they tend to be noiser and less comfortable than others (typically designed for high performance cars

I believe this to be a problem of the past about summer tires. Years ago, summer tires could be somewhat harsh, but now have mellowed out with tire technology. There are 6 different summer tire catagorys to choose from these days and some of the comfortable tires mentioned on the forum are placed in one of the six, i.e. Bridgestone Turenza, Continental DW and more.

Extreme Performance Summer
You want extreme dry street performance and are willing to trade some comfort and hydroplaning resistance to get it.

Max Performance SummerYou want an unsurpassed blend of dry and wet street traction and handling and only the finest will do.

Ultra High Performance SummerYou want an outstanding blend of dry and wet street traction and handling.

High Performance SummerYou want a good blend of dry and wet street performance when "re-tiring" your sports coupe or sedan.

Grand Touring SummerYou want a good blend of dry and wet street performance along with responsive handling and noise and ride comfort.

Track & Competition DOTYou want D.O.T.-legal street tires for autocross, racetrack or rally performance

I would choose one of the top 4 rated tires from this list:

I agree. I have the Bridgestone Turanza Serenity and have used them for the last 5 years on an Acura and now on the Genny, great tire. Also you should consider the Continental contact DWS.

Generally these categories are correct, however tire manufactures can call their tires what they want, there is no standard in the industry. That is why for instance the Bridgestone Serenity (Grand touring all season) performs similar to the Continental extreme contact DWS (ultra High perfromance all season). So check the performance and take what category the tire is placed in with a grain of salt.

Good points Stone. The reviews on Tirerack.com would also be a good place for research as to see where specific tires land in peoples' opinions.

Considering that Continental owns General Tire (i.e. consolidation of production lines)...

The newest, best bang for the buck 'all-season' (or 'no-season' as some call them) tire out there seems to be the General Gmax AS-03 (it's the follow-up to the Exclaim UHP). They are being heralded in early user reviews as well as various print/web publications.

I have these on my Genesis V6 with 17" wheels and they are outstanding tires. However, I don't believe they are available in the specific size used to match the Genesis 18" OEM tires (check the size chart on TireRack.com).

Costco is offering $70 off on a set of 4 Bridgestones until April 1st. Even if you are not a member, this would pay for your $50 annual membership fee. They provide free rotations, free rebalancing, free nitrogen, free repair (if possible), etc, and I would highly recommend them. Discount Tire is also good.

cool, thanks.

conti pro contact vs bridgestone serenity ??

the conti pro contacts are 100 bucks cheaper, but on tire rack, they're rated a bit lower compared to the bridgestones.

what do you guys think?

also, are you slowed down at all by going from a touring performance tire, vs the sport dunlaps i currently have?
thanks

ps discount tire was only 15 bucks higher than costco (995.00) for the bridgestones, but they are throwing in 2 free tickets to 6 flags and a free oil change. this also applies for any purchase over 600.00
