  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So I have a 2013 Genesis sedan base. I took it in to the dealership because my transmission is acting up, lagging and jerking around 35mph. So the lady told me that because my wheels are to big which are (245,35,20), that my warranty is voided cause there aftermarket parts. I told her that I bought those wheel with the car . Then she said my transmission could be acting up because my wheels are to big for it . Idk if this makes sense or if she's right but I need help.

I mean, I am sure that there are "modified vehicle" clauses in the warranty but as long as your wheels aren't all different sizes or something weird then I don't see how they can say it voided the warranty. Within reason, how would it? If the warranty is through Hyundai I would call them directly.

Right. All my wheels are those same size. The only thing I did was put straight pipes. But I just don't get how it adds up with my wheels. It's just wheels.

:mad:If the vehicle didn't sell its self I would have missed out. My sales person told me that the radar box on the front was a heater. I replied I did not know that Hyundai would put a microwave in the grill of a 55,000 car. Genesis 5.0 2015.

The wheels are not OEM size (17" for the Base Trim), so it "could" (I didn't say it would) affect the way the electronics in the transmission works to shift gears. However, that does not void then entire warranty, only things that the after-market wheels can affect.

But you could try another dealer, since warranty work can be performed at any Hyundai dealer. Worse case, you could get (or borrow) some OEM wheels and see if the problem still exists and then get warranty service (since a new transmission is more than $8K for the parts alone).

If you purchased the car with the after-market 20" wheels at a Hyundai dealer, and they told you there was time/miles remaining on the warranty, then you may have a legal case against them if they refuse warranty service.

IF your original tires were 225/55/17 (according to some website) and they put 245/35/20 it might be the problem, since the speed error will be ~3.71%
I was told a few times, years ago, that you should "stay" below 3% to not effect traction control or/and transmission.

I bought the car in another dealership, not a Hyundai one so I have to go read my contact to see if they put description of the wheels that were already on it. But I will definitely try to use the standard tires and try. Thanks

I will definitely try to get the standard tire size and see if it works.

Warranty is 5 years or 60K miles, which ever comes first.

In the USA only, original owners get an extension on the drivetrain warranty (engine and transmission) to 10 years or 100K miles. This drivetrain warranty does not apply to re-sales, unless the car was sold as CPO (certified pre-owned) by a Hyundai dealer. A dealer has to pay Hyundai about $1000 for the CPO designation.
