  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Long story short...When I took delivery of my car it was dark and I didn't notice a paint issue. I informed the Dealership of what looked like a grain of rice that was stuck to the car and then painted over. It was stuck in the indentation of the passenger door just behind the handle. The dealership said they would have it handled by the body shop they use (Freehold Auto Body). I was assured repeatedly that they would make it look flawless by the dealership...To cut to the chase the car came back, and the dealership sent it back to be redone before they even let me see it. It was that bad. SO, I get a call 2 days later and they say its done. I'm told it looked perfect. The car looks like a kid did a touch up job and this was his practice car!! I got the Service director to come out and he was awed by the way a 40k car was treated.

Now I have 2 options...

1. Find the best, most reliable shop that can do the work correctly...with the costs covered by the dealership...or

2. They will re-skin the door which I know is a nightmare of a process. Cutting welds, weather stripping...etc.

I have been pushing for a new door. IMO, I bought a "new" car. This should be their headache.

Any thoughts on how to get some satisfaction would be awesome. And please NJ guys...recommend an excellent Body shop.

Thanks,

Owen

And please NJ guys...recommend an excellent Body shop.
Highest rated body shop in southern NJ is Babe's in Atlantic City.

Body by Mule on Rt 130 in Yardville, NJ on two occasions did some major repairs on my BMW 740il and did a an outstanding job. This was not reskining but complete replacement of bumper, fender, hood etc. Flawless work.

Ive taken my car to Freehold Auto Body and had a few problems with them in the past which I will not go into. A friend told me about Quality Auto Body in Rahway. Their address is Quality Auto Body, 811 New Brunswick, Rahway, NJ 07065 732-388-2400. They are Ray Catena's body shop.

Ive taken a number of my family's cars to that shop and they matched the paint perfectly each time. A lot of shops out there do sloppy work, but Quality does not take any short cuts. They work on high end cars all the time and have a very discriminating clientele unlike Freehold Auto Body.

My recommendation is to take it to Quality. They deal with insurance companies and dealerships all the time. Their work is always flawless and they warranty their work.

Re-skinning an otherwise undamaged door is needless. What you need to find is a shop that does the proper preparation and knows how to shoot paint. If the sheetmetal is not damaged then refinishing properly is all you need. I would suspect that what has been done was an effort to spot and blend the paint and depending on the color this is very difficult.

eating their Kimchi in the paint shop again!
