  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Need Comments on Genesis Sound Dampener Kit

I know that Dynamat and the like work. No idea how well that kit would work, though. In general, adding padding will cut down on sound, it is just a question of what the price/weight/noise trade off winds up actually being?

The price for that kit is getting into the territory of what some "complete" deadening installs at an audio shop will run.

What's your application? If you just want a slightly quieter ride, then that kit might be a good way to go, especially if you want an easy install, and don't want to trust someone else with it (installing Dynamat is a royal pain). If you want dead silence at full throttle with mushroom clouds in the rear view, then I'd suggest getting friendly with a local pro car audio shop, and preparing to spend quite a bit of money.

i myself have already brought the trunk & door kits of dynamat & plan on doing it myself but it will more than likely be at the beginning of spring when i also get some new rims for my baby, im big on music & the quality of the sounds in my car so im hoping it will only enhance the 17 speakers & my bass tube in my trunk

What's your application?

The 17-speaker Lexicon is more than good enough to me. I just want to see if I can cut down the road noise and wind noise a bit.

I know it is a quiet car already :p

I have used Dynamat and some lower cost equivalents (google to find) They are great, I removed the seats on the Nissan Murano and also the door inners for really great results. It's a bunch of work but great. The Genesis is already one of the very quietest cars i ever owned so with the addition it should be great.

Hi,

Does anyone have any experience in sound damperner kits? Do they really work or just mentally work in your head but not noticiablly quieter in real world?

Here is a link to the product: http://www.koreanautoimports.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=31_237_239&products_id=1632

Thanks for any feedback or comments in advance.

I totally would love something like this. I understand how quite the car is already, but I just think about the results after an application such as this. Incredible!

ScottDK, wait a second, you have the cool magnaflow muffler, you wouldn't be able to hear it unless you saved your YouTube video to a DVD and played that through the car stereo :). kidding.

Hey, hey, hey:) C'mon now, the windows roll down. Ok you've seen the video, but It's THAT audible at full throttle. Of course. It's subtle otherwise. Although I did floor it in an area on a deserted highway today coming back from St. Cloud, MN and hit 125 mph real fast and it sounded like heaven the whole time. Tomorrow will be my last day driving the car and it will be in storage until April for the season.

I've already found too many "excuses" to floor it and feel the rush, however brief before the reality of "wreckless driving" sets in and I let up on the gas and hit the brake to slow down to a reasonable 90mph. I have the feeling the Magnaflow would only push me over the edge and I would be coming up with reasons to drive on long old abandoned roads just to hear the muffler sing.

Back to the thread at hand, I am intrigued by the idea of an even more quiet ride too, it's one of the main reasons I was looking at the luxury segment.
Love to hear from anyone that actually gets a Dynamat installed and the sound difference measured.

My expierence with dynamat comes from the Corvette forum. I have a C5 Corvette and they are waaaay loud at speed from road noise (really the runflat tires). The Dynamat helps but for the work not really worth it. Guys did fender wells, cargo area, doors, floor, fire-wall, transmission tunnel and behind the seat w/o stellar results. Quieter but how much work is that. If you must insulate check into a product available at Lowes called freezer-king insulation. Many on the Vette forum used it. Much cheaper than Dyna and as good. BTW didn't Car and Driver report the Genesis is quieter than the Lexus LS? Good luck.
