  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I was driving my 2012 Hyundai Genesis (3.8 L) yesterday when the brakes completely went out. No warning lights nothing. It happened in the bank drive-thru thank God.

Was able to drive home with hazards and putting the car in manual. I've been seeing things about HECU failure. The only recalls come up are for windshield wipers and brake reservoir cap.

Any suggestions would be very helpful. I've worked on the car myself, doing oil changes, rotors and brake pads. She has 181,000 miles on her.

Is the ABS light on now? Any lights on?
Is there still brake fluid in the reservoir?
What is the nature of the failure? Push pedal to the floor and nothing happens? Pedal is hard and can't push it down?
Why couldn't you use the emergency brake?

No lights are on.

Yes there is brake fluid.

Pedal goes straight to the floor. I was in line at the drive-thru at the bank. Placed car into park and went to brake. Nothing. I did use the emergency brake to stop, place in park again as then I was at the tellers lane to make my transaction.

I went out to the car started it again, when it was off I had resistance from the brake, when it started up it goes straight to the floor. The vehicle I could take out of park now it's locked up completely.

The emergency brake isn't a hand brake, which I could still use it. It was just easier putting the vehicle into manual transmission because there are a lot of hills and the speed is 65 mph. Which people here tend to go 80 mph.

I bought a 2012 Genesis last June and quickly realized the brakes were soft at times and the pedal would go almost to the floor without warning. I took my car to a local mechanic who said I needed a new HECU and he gave me a Technical Service Bulletin (#22-BR-001H1). I checked and found a safety recall (Campaign #114) issued for "certain 2009-2012MY Genesis (BH) produced from April 30, 2008 to March 28, 2012. My car was produced on March 30, 2012. Two days later and so my claim was denied! The repair is $2900 plus tax. I have been communicating with Hyundai for a "goodwill extension" of the warranty but I have been told no. I have not given up and will keep trying. I don't know if this is something you might be interested in, just wanted to put it out there.
