  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Need help deciding between 2 cars!

I don't think that I would have bought a Genesis if I still lived out on the east coast, would not be able to enjoy it sitting at red light all the time,80mph speed limits out here. Love it!!!!

It’s very easy to just mash the throttle and be going 100 in about 10 seconds. Love it!

I know RIGHT!! VERY FAST!! I Live in Ford and Chevy country. When I told them what I got they looked at me like I was stupid or something. The quality of these cars is great. And like you said you can do 100mph before you know it!!

Regular octane?
I run regular and my average speed is upper 40s, commuting almost entirely on highway, but I hit traffic for about 1/4 of the trip I'm either going 70 (75%), or 25 (25%). My average MPG is 25, sometimes 26. I've hit 27 with zero traffic on a long haul at 75. With some city traffic mixed in, I get low 20s.

For me, this is a daily long haul commuter, I don't need super. At 20k miles a year of daily grind, it doesn't make sense to spend extra on octain.

I agree with you 100% That extra per gallon adds up. I maybe drive vehicle 5000 a year or so. Any kind of stoping and starting my mpg drops. I use the lucas octane booster and the car seems to like it. I am hyper critical about my vehicles and notice any little change . I must say, just by siging on to this forum I have learned a lot about the Genesis.

It is nice to read and compare my vehicle to others around the nation!! Thanks

In my '15 5.0, my absolute best was on a trip of about 165 miles coming back from the Blue Ridge. It got 28.8 mpg as calculated at the next fill-up. I use Shell 93 octane and ignore the price...usually. I haven't seen an increase/decrease of significance when I have used regular though. I like the added detergents in the 93 version. Driving in mixed traffic around Charlotte/Lake Norman, the mileage drops to 20-21mpg. Still very happy with that. I will caution you that the 5.0 does not "efficiently" idle in traffic. If you ever sit in stop and go traffic with lots of idling, prepare yourself. the Tau engine doesn't sip fuel at idle!

I have noticed that, Just stopping for a half a dozen red lights mpg drops. I use the non ethanol gas. That seems to help the mpg. My 2000 suburban 2500 is12 mpg with the ethanol fuel, with non ethanol its 15. I am sure that's why the mpg is up at 29 to 30.

"Doesn't sip fuel at idle" Tell me about it... If Houston traffic is especially bad I get about 14 - with an average speed of about 20 mph!

Wow that is crazy! I used to deal with philly traffic, moved because of traffic. Now when I go for a drive I wont see a car for 30miles!!!

"To dream the impossible dream".... To be honest, if you can get outside the major cities in Texas, a lot of secondary roads are 70+ & you're pretty immune to tickets unless you're more than 10+ over - they'd rather write a big one than to bother otherwise.

Houston traffic blows pretty heavily though. Occasionally using Sport mode w/ the 5.0 makes it a little more fun!

I am straight north of you in south Dakota ,I can relate to the openness and good speed limits. I came from jersey right outside of center city philly. I would never enjoy the 5.0 out there.

There are some toll roads in TX that are posted @ 80 but I've never been on them - just haven't matched up with where I wanted to go. Most of the "fish" go 80-85 on the Interstates between cities anyway.

I'm currently driving a 3.8 loaner and it's quite possibly slower than an inline 4 Toyota. At 75 the car falls flat.

I miss my 5.0.

Yeah - a lot of the magazines at the time were saying that you weren't missing much by not getting the V8. To which I say BS!

I drove a V6 & a V8 car on the same lot back to back. I drove the V8 1st for about 30 mins, I only went around the block in the V6. Bought a 5.0 & never looked back. It actually gets BETTER mileage that my old Infiniti G35s with a 3.5 V6!

I totally agree, the V8 is so smooth, powerful, quiet and when you are cruising at 70 and want to get around someone you dont have to push the accelerator to the floor.no replacement for displacement!

I had a '17 G80 Ultimate 5.0 for a year. It felt great; couldn't imagine wanting any more power under any circumstance outside of a NASCAR track, and I've been driving V8s for almost 60 years.
I now have a new G80 3.3T sport sedan. It feels exactly the same!

The fuel economy is way better than the salesman told me it would be. I am really happy with the car!

[/QUOTE. What EdP said the other day is so true V8s are going to be the thing of the past. I plan on keeping my 5.0 as long as I can. Take good care of it and it will take good care of you. When my one friend stopped by to look at car and seen me wiping down suspension with a rag and wd40 he thinks for sure I am nuts. It is such a nice car it deserves to be treated a such!!
