Need Help!!! Does anyone have write up to replace alternator 2014 Hyundai Genesis 5.0

The is my first post I have looked all over the internet and haven't been able to find a write up on replacing the alternator for this car anywhere! Can someone point me in the right direction? I have tried several shop manuals on this site and they are no help. It looks like I would have to unbolt the passenger motor mount and jack up the car a little bit to get it out, but I'm unsure. If anyone can leave a link or small "how to" I would appreciate it!

It's a little tricky.
I recently had to replace mine, it was still under warranty.

You don't have to removed any of the motor mounts.
A quick review of the process.

Release the pressure on the belt tensioner and remove
The belt around the alternator.
On the top left corner of the alternator you'll see a 10mm
Bolt bracket holding the alternator wires. Remove that 10mm bolt.
Then the alternator connector and power wire. A 12mm nut.
Then to remove the alternator you must remove the bracket which holds the alternator,
Which is the tricky part. The alternator has 2 14mm bolts holding it to the bracket, the bracket has 4 14mm bolts and
A 12mm bolt on the front. Two of the 14mm bolts are located behind the alternator.
Which means you would have to move the alternator toward the front of the car to reach the two bolts.
Then remove the bracket and alternator together. Then you would have to follow in reverse order to properly reach
Those 2 14mm behind the alternator.

It's going to seem like impossible especially your first time.
The Hyundai instruction just shows to remove the belt, under covers and the alternator. Literally.
I don't know where your located but I'm in Miami. If that's any help, we can do it together no issues.

Ron5.0 thanks for the response and your procedures are exactly what i did. I went ahead and tackled the job the same day i made the post(kinda impatient lol). I didn't notice the 2 bolts holding the bracket on until i loosened the alternator and pushed it forward. After I noticed them it was an easy process. 30 mins-1 hr all together. Real easy job once you find out about those 2 bolts. The hardest part was holding up the weight of the bracket with the alternator in it when you go back with it lol.

I am curious too, did the stock one go out? If mine goes out under warranty, I will order a HO version.
I had to replace my 2008 Accord's last weekend and by the advice of my mechanic, he said not to get a reman from like a parts store. Go to the dealer. Low and behold, it was $650.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was not happy when MechMan can give me double to output for $300.00


I know that was dumb but Honda actually replaces everything in the alternator versus what someone like Autozone or Pepboys does replace the bad part like brushes or something like that.

I just had to do this today in my car (battery light came on and it was the alternator). I will say this was a REAL PAIN IN THE A$$$$$$ No way it is a 30min-1hour job unless you have a lift and know exactly what you are doing. I have quite a bit of experience around cars also and have replaced just about everything but a transmission and full engine. I have worked around this car also so I expected the alternator to be pretty easy.

As others have said - the 2 "hidden" bolts on the bracket are a major pain and I would like to kick the engineer in the rear who designed it this way.
If it ever happens again I would gladly pay to get it done at the dealer (at least I think...depends on the price!)

my tips are
Jack the car up
Take off the air intake and filter box so you have access from the top and bottom
Regarding those 2 bolts facing the engine on the bracket...BEHIND the damn alternator!!! Well I "simply" took off the alternator bolts and everything but those 2, then I was able to hit the alternator from the bottom and basically push it up and forward as much as possible. Then I got a 1/4 inch ratchet and 14mm socket to barely be able to fit in to get those DAMN bolts out

As you can tell I did not have fun...hahaha!
BUT I did get it fixed and somehow the reman alternator from Autozone is only like $135.
Good times with a 100k mile vehicle

getting out was the hard part. Putting the new one in was easy
what is causing you problems?
It wont go in like butter but once you get the old one out, it is pretty obvious how to reverse the procedure

I figured out the 2 bolts behind the alternator that was a bit frustrating but after that It was like a puzzle getting it out and getting the right angle. I just received the new alternator so giving it a go. Glad to hear it’s easier going in.

An in-depth guide to replace an alternator on a Hyundai Genesis R-Spec sedan. I followed the guide above & it is missing a few steps... My Genesis is a 2013.

1. Engage the parking brake and disconnect the negative terminal from the battery in the trunk.
2. Remove the intake airbox and the hard tubing (10mm bolts). To avoid removing the soft curvy hose connected to the valve cover, I just rested the intake stuff on top of the engine. **two bolts are located under the shroud (see step 3)
3. Remove the plastic intake shroud by popping off the clips & left front bolt (10mm).
4. Slide out tubing from the 2 clips on radiator fan & move tubing aside.
5. With a big wrench - release the pressure on the belt tensioner pulley and remove the belt around the idler pulley, then the alternator.
6. Top left front corner of the alternator: remove 10mm bolt bracket holding an alternator wire.
7. Remove 2x14mm mounting bolts from front (top right & bottom right) of alternator,
8. Jack up car & rest framerails on jack stands. Grab your safety glasses too - things are about to get sandy.
9. Drop down 2 both front plastic 'skid plates' (10mm bolts).
10. Disconnect alternator power (10mm) by moving round boot. Slide this cable forward & out of the way.
11. Remove 12mm bolt on bottom of alternator bracket.
12. Seriously, take a break now - the next part requires patience and a bit of force. Find your calm persistence here.
13. Unplug wire connector on back of alternator by squeezing, it should come out easily.
14. The alternator is currently blocking 4x14mm bolts holding the alternator's bracket to the engine. With a flashlight, look at the space that you have to move the alternator forward & away. Your goal is that there needs to be enough room to fit a wrench on the recessed bracket bolts (between alternator and alternator bracket) for removal. Carefully wiggle the alternator (with force) forward. This takes time.
15. Keep face/body clear of falling heavy metals. This next step involves dropping the alternator + bracket.
16. Remove 4x14mm bolts on alternator bracket. **double check step 11' success before removing bracket
17. With bracket loose, feel how it slides into place; on step 19 - it's going to be heavier.
18. Attach new alternator to alternator bracket via 1 finger-tight mounting bolt.
19. Get a bracket bolt ready in hand. Slide bracket (with alternator) back home. Tighten 2x14mm bracket bolts.
20. Remove alternator from bracket & carefully force it forward again in the engine bay.
21. Insert & tighten the 2x14mm remaining recessed bracket bolts. (reference step 14)
22. Attach alternator to bracket & tighten alternator's 2x14mm mounting bolts on the front of the bracket.
23. Tighten alternator power (10mm) & secure black rubber round boot.
24. Insert power connector to back of alternator until it 'clicks'.
25. Re-attach 2 front 'skid plates' via 10mm bolts.
26. Remove jack & jack stands.
27. Re-attach serpentine belt via belt tensioner (alternator 1st, then idler pulley).
28. Re-attach plastic intake airbox, tubing & intake shroud.
29. Re-connect negative terminal battery.
30. Have a fun & nice drive!
