  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Need info (and a warning) from those using seat cushions

Hey gang, for those of us getting up in age, or more specifically, the S/Os, they need to start using seat cushions for trips. The problem is that at least on Santa Fes, with a seat cushion, the passenger airbags do NOT detect the weight, for some reason, so the airbags are off. A Santa Fe owner didn't realize that was the case, until he tried it, and lo and behold, he traveled for years with his wife unprotected (but nothing happened). So that's the 'warning' part. Since most of us drive alone most of the time, our subconscious is used to see the 'passenger airbag off' light, so that doesn't trigger our attention to that.

So my question is for those using a cushion for the passenger: Can you please check, and let me know if that's the case with a new G70? Mine is 2023, but should be the same at least with the 2022s, when the redesign took place. The solution to that is to place a Faraday fabric below the seat cushion, so you know. And finally, suggestions for good seat cushions would be appreciated. Thank you.

So nobody uses seat cushions for themselves, or the wives? Need to know if the passenger airbag light turns off or not, like on Santa Fes, and probably other vehicles. The airbag sensors used to be pressure ones, but guess that's not the case anymore. Really curious why a Faraday cloth triggers the switch, which you do NOT want to do if an occupant is less than 60 lbs. But also you do want if over that. Need to see where that stupid light is on the G70. Ha ha. Guess will just buy the Faraday cloth, and use it if needed. I'll report back my findings, to help others. Not fun not getting help, but maybe nobody of the 90 viewers know that. Thanks anyway folks.

I just tested it with a 2" patio furniture cushion and you are correct that it will disable the passengers side airbag. I'm guessing that this would be dependent on the thickness of the cushion.

Apparently yes. I just tried with my dog's 'cool pad' (which is a very thin pad wrapped in solid vinyl), and it worked, even folded 3 times, which is what my wife will do on our upcoming trip Friday. But that's still less than 1" thick. The light takes about 2 seconds to go out, as you probably noticed. I'm 160, so hopefully my wife's 135 will trigger the sensor too. I'm not going to take anything, so the freaking seat better be comfortable enough for me, or it'd be relegated to city duty only. Ha ha. And it was quite expensive for just that. I'll find out soon enough :).
