If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I would like to know its competitors based on price (similar priced luxury vehicle) and also based on feature/option.

For example, C300 and BMW 3 comes kind of close to 3.8 Genesis price-wise. Please give me an input if you know others.

Feature-wise, some even compared Genesis to S class, is that really that close side by side? Additional input will be great.

Part of the issue is the size of the car (interior room), not just features. BMW and 3 and MB C are much smaller than the Genesis sedan, but if you are OK with a smaller size, than you definitely have a lot of options.

The ones I compared it to (talking about a 4.6 here):

1) BMW 5-series
2) Mercedes E-class
3) Acura TL
4) Lexus GS or LS
5) Infinity M

The hardest thing about doing a direct comparison with the Genesis is that it blends so many features that it cuts across a wide breadth of luxury cars (i.e., the size of the car, the engine choices, available tech features, sound system, etc.). These factors make a direct comparison not as clean as some might think.

Ditto the comments of jckofspds. I also compared the rspec to the jaguar xf and audi a6.

i think this is why the Genesis is so great. i was looking at the Taurus, Lacrosse, accord, maxima (used) and jag xf(used). no way i was looking at BMW,mb,audi.... i could not believe for only a few dollars more, i could get a 4.6tau..with the warranty, it was a no brainer.

Dont have a Genesis but i think is a great car. I went to purchase one about a month ago and treatment i received was absolutely horrible. This and the fact that IMO needs a tad more refinement completely steered me away from purchasing one and ended up with an Infiniti M37s. My gf has a 2010 Santa Fe and the experience with that one is the same.

Dollar per dollar the Genesis offers great things but at least for me not quite there yet

Agreed! Many of the dealers are horrible. They treat everyone as if they were buying the econo-boxes of 5 years ago. Hyundai needs to turn their attention to their US dealer network.

BTW - I had to go 3K miles out of state to find a good dealer to work with.

Cheers,

love the last gen Infiniti "M" can't stand the new one. it looks like a flattened FX to me.. If the badge on the grille read "Kia" i think people would trash it but that infiniti emblem carries alot of weight..

no offense, i love infiniti, just think Infiniti did what hyundai did with the sonata, they overthought it and took away from the car's progression .

There's no excuse for bad treatment, and the dealerships I've visited were certainly less refined than their counterparts at BMW, Lexus, MB, and so on. But if you're saying that the Genesis itself needs further refinement, I'd counter that the car is already refined enough for many of us, especially considering its price. I expect that Hyundai will add features over time (such as the lane departure warning system on the '12 Genesis), but I don't think that they can fully match more expensive competitors without a substantial increase in cost.

Here's a list of luxary sedans all priced with a RWD V8, same weight/length, equal gas mileage, similar options such as NAV system, rear camera, rain sensing wipers, heated seats, etc., and similar interior room/trunk space.

Year Manuf. Model Engine HP MSRP
2011 Lexus GS460 4.6L V8 342 $61k
2012 Infiniti M56 5.6L V8 420 $67k
2011 Mercedes E550 5.5L V8 382 $69k
2011 BMW 550i 4.4L V8 400 $66k
2012 Hyundai R-Spec 5.0L V8 429 $46k

Obviously, the Genesis doesn't have all the bells & whistles like adjustable air suspension, ventilated passenger seat, or folding rear seats, but pound for pound and penny for penny, it's impressive that it competes in this arena for $15k -$25k less.

I am also in the researching stage and the Genesis was (briefly) the front-runner to replace our 2000 Acura TL. But the dealer experience was really a joke. The particular dealer I went to with my wife had a small lot with no Genesis on it. I told the salesman that I was interested in looking at one and he said they are kept at another lot and would have to drive me there. He explained they are in the process of eventually moving all of their cars to a larger site but, in the meantime, they were spread out among a few locations. We were waiting around 10 minutes while he was going in the showroom and then out again to try and find a key for another car so that he could take us to the second lot. We were about to give up when he finally found a key and took us to the place where the Genesi were kept.

We took the test drive which was pleasant enough and ended up back at the lot where we started. I had made it quite clear that we were still in the looking stages and were not going to be buying that day. At the end of the drive we did our walkaround looking at the trunk, engine, etc. and I asked if I could have a brochure to look over. He said these were in the showroom and if we came in he would give us one.

The minute we walked in the showroom he turned us over to the manager who tried pushing for a sale. I reiterated that we were still looking and a few months away from actually buying but could I please have a brochure. He said they were short on them and had just given the last away. Moreover, once he understood we were not there to buy, he lost any enthusiasm he might have had. We were pretty disgusted with the experience. Of course over the next several days I kept getting calls from the salesman.

I just felt the entire experience was pretty tacky.

Interesting comments concerning the treatment encountered at the various dealerships. I visited 3 dealerships in S. CA and all were newly upgraded including very comfortable waiting rooms complete with wifi and childrens area. They have all recently upgraded to customm brewed Starbucks coffee machines.

As far as the sales staffs I found each of them much friendlier and more professional than the Acura dealerships I visited when purchasing my 2008 TL. They were on par with the local Mercedes dealership where we purchased my wifes e 350.

I guess it depends on where you are located but it does appear Hyundai is attempting to upgrade their facilities and service standards. I have noticed that they have taken over a few of the closed Chevy/Gm dealership locations this past year.

An additional note: Having owned both the Acura TL and the Genesis I would consider the Acura RL to be more similar and the closer competitior to the Genesis than the TL

You found the Hyundai dealerships on par with Mercedes? Really? I live in SoCal and have visited 2 Hyaundai dealerships and had a contrary perspective. Glendale Hyundai is just like the one Siesmic described. Small. A Genesis scrunched right up next to an Accent. The Acura dealership across the street is just as small but decidedly more upscale.

The Hyundai salesman I spoke with laughed at me and continued to smirk after learning I own a 2010 Acura TL SH-AWD. He called it an inferior car.

I have never been more offended by a dealership in my life.

He finally admitted he never had driven a TL and confessed that he himself owned a 2001 Elantra that was "solid as a rock".

My wife took her Elantra in for simple servicing at Keyes Hyundai. They took advantage of her and turned a $140 estimate into an $860 bill by, for example, replacing a timing belt that still had 20,000 miles on it. Plus they let her sit there thinking her bill would be $140 and only presented the $860 bill after the fact.

Naturally I disputed the bill. But the waste of my time was inexcusable.

Try Glendora, Ontario, Corona or a few in Orange County. all very modern and larger facilities. Also if your wife did not receive and sign an estimate for the 800 plus repairs you have legal recourse.

Thanks for the "heads up" on dealerships. I charge important purchases or purchases with dubious vendors on Amex. When a dispute is filed....the consumer always wins. They have a reputation for that.

Amen to that! I do the same thing! Amex is great in making sure their cardholders are treated well.

I am leaning toward a new Black on Black Chrysler 300C. Will test drive it tomorrow. I love my 4.6 but this new Chrysler offers features that are not available on the Genesis. For example - heated steering wheel, cooled passenger seat, 8 way passenger seat, folding rear seats, wifi hot spot, automatic high beams, heated/cooled cup holders. It has an Alpine sourced stereo system (not Lexicon but still a good system). If the seats are as comfortable as the Genesis, I'll probably give up the Genesis. Let you know.

But it looks like a night club bouncer! LOL! Styling is such a personal choice.

While the styling is entirely personalized, and the styles of the two cars are fairly different, the deal breaker for me on the 300 is that it is an antiquated 5 speed transmission. The next model of that car, with the newer transmission, should be a lot better. But then again, the next generation of the Genesis (which is now only a few years away) is going to probably blow the 300 out of the water...
