If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi every one, just signed up and have a few questions on the Gen coupe. First am Andre, I bought back in 06 I bought new a Pontaic G6 GTP coupe. Well thats where my luck has went down hill, The 3900 V6 as a new engine at the time and well GM has it discontined now and the 3900 is plaqued with head gasket leaks. Mine has 32K miles and has ate 3 head gaskets and leaking again. I cant take it anymore and really thinking about buying the a 3.8L automatic tranny touring trim Gen coupe. First and most importantly, does the 3.8L have any weird issues like head gasket leaks or recalls? lol. I have tryed reading some threads and searches but figured I go right to the fourms as there more relistic with real world driving people. My other question is, there a big diffrence from the 3.8L track and touring trims? I know the suspention etc, but on the street is there really a diffrence for the extra 2K upgrade? Only thing I can see is major is the limited diff upgrade that might be worth it but I dont own one so dont know if its worth it on this car or not.

If I get the car this will be my first non american car I have ever owned, but 3200 lbs RWD V6 car with 300+ HP is very tempting Amercian or not. Plus seems simular looking to my G6 coupe and I like my G6 but the 3.9L engine is junk. Any other info any one can offer me would be appresated.

Thanks!

The 3.8 GC is still a pretty new car so any big problems probably won't show up for a while. However, this is a first run car for Hyundai and there are quality issues. Quite a few people have experienced mis-aligned hoods, alignment issues, creaking in the rear quarter panels, miscellaneous noises in the interior, blue-tooth problems and etc. But, it's still a great car and puts a smile on my face every time I drive it.

The Track's suspension is approximately 15% stiffer than the Touring model. Also the wheels and tires are slightly wider on the track in addition to being an inch tall and the track having summer tires. Oh and as you know the Track as the Brembo brakes.

None-the-less, I have the Touring model and it does perfectly fine for my DD'ing. I won't be racing it and with the roads around where I live, having a slightly softer suspension is a plus. I've driven a 2.0Track and it was just a hair to stiff for me which is why I went with the Touring package on my 3.8. Oh, and yes, although I could only get the open diff I would have definitely gone with the limited-slip diff if it were available.

Thanks for the reply! Atleast so far sounds like no mechanical issues popping up, that what matters to me. The other stuff I had and a few still have on my GTP coupe as it is also a first run vechile. On the track option sounds like I might just pass as a long term car dont want to be stuck with too stiff suspension. Only thing that I do like on it like you mentioned was the limited-slip, that does sound like a good option. The Brembo breaks dont care either way as I figured my stock GTP breaks have been fine for me, esp made a world of a diffrence changing up from stock DOT 3 to DOT 5. Thanks again!

Darn it! I forget one other problem and it is mechanical. A lot of people are having "crunchy" issues with their manual transmissions. I actually test drove a 2.0 that had this very problem. It would grind going from 4th into 5th gear. You might want to search Google for that problem. I have the A/T so no major problems there.

I appresate the extra info! I have very simular story, but when I like get the Gen coupe I am going to stick with an automatic. When I went to get my GTP I wanted a manual so bad but luckly got talked out of it. Long story short the 6spd manual tranny called the F40 turned out to be junk. All that tranny does is grind in 3rd and above. Another ideam GM convently discontined after the 06 model year. Alot of people on the G6 site am on is complain about the F40 and yet another thing GM let us high and dry on and why I dont want another GM product again.
