  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The other day while driving to work on the highway with my coworkers a metal object flew off the car infront of me in the left lane. I saw the object hit the ground and make a Bee line towards me. I had enough time to swerve but my heads up display showed me I had cars on both sides of me so All I could do was slam on the brakes and brace for impact. Luckily the object didn't fly through my windshield. But it hit my bumper and headlight then my hood and flew over the top of my car. By the time I sped up to catch the cars license plate I couldn't find him. So I just drove straight to work. When I got there I accessed the damages. I figured everything was under $1500 in damages so I figured not to call my insurance company since I have a $1000 deductible. The damage was piece of my bumper cracked off. The glass lenses for the headlight shattered. And the bumper got a few dents on it. I went to my dealership to get a quote for the headlight, since they don't just sell the housing. The quote I received was $2600 for the one headlight housing. My question I need help with is. I saw in eBay they have whole headlight assembly for about $300-500. Since my model is the Canadian model and the ones being sold are American headlight assembly. Can I use that assembly but keep my wiring so that I have my DRL working correctly. Or can I just keep all my lights and just use the headlight glass assembly so that only the casing is changed?

Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated. I don't want to spend $2600 for just one headlight assembly.

my guess is the wiring is the same for CA and US cars with the difference being in the computer programming, if i were you i would just order the lights from Ebay

probably better off calling your insurance. take the $2600 and buy the headlight on eBay so you come out ahead $1k.

Wiring in the USA car is different than the Canadian car. The 2015 USA wiring harness is missing a dedicated DRL pin on the connector and just sends the DRL signal down the turn signal wire. However, I'm almost positive that the actual headlight assemblies are the same - but can't say with 100% confidence, so don't want to steer you wrong.

Perhaps you could check part numbers for 2015 USA versus Canada headlights? Or check if USA 2015 and 2016 are the same part number - if so, they should work as 2016 USA cars have the LED DRL's functional!

Just looked at your pictures - your hood has a pretty good ding in it too - I'd just go through insurance as that won't be cheap to fix all of that!

Its a new car worth over 30k, get it repaired in a first class way and use insurance. Also i am not sure this would be collision deductible. It may be road hazard comprehensive since it was not a stationary object and it was falling off another vehicle and that usually has a lower deductible.

Bring it in and have it assessed, you may be surprised at what it is worth to fix the darn thing nowadays. My 2010 Gen1 4.6 V8 was in a mishap. Hit a small post which pushed in the rad slightly. Car still drove no problem except on the way to the evaluators, the hot engine light came on as there was a small leak in the rad. Seemed like a few thousand in damage at most. I was in shock when I found out they totalled the car. My insurance did replace it with a brand new 2012 Rspec. A single retention tab on each headlight was broken so as you saw over $5000 just for the 2 head lights. The computer is right up front and was hit so it needed replacing although the car drove fine, that was over $10,000. Add up all the rest of the little stuff with todays outrageous hourly rate and it went over the top. I was very displeased at first but when I got the new car then my mood changed.
