  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello All, (New member, first post, Hopefully new car purchase soon).

Just have a few questions...Maybe someone might be able to throw some advise and answers my way. I travel quite often for work and have driven it seems; the full inventory of what rental companies have to offer (within budget of course). I find myself selecting the genesis anytime it's available. The cabin is quite, the drive is smooth, love the transmission...so on...I'm in the position of buying a new car and the new genesis is at the top of the list. I looked at one yesterday...It was a black 5.0 and just a beautiful ride. Wife loved it and had plenty of back seat room for our kids car seats...unfortunately, it was nap time...So, we didn't get a chance to drive it. I plan to go back this week and test drive the 5.0 and the 3.8... On to some questions...

1. I don't see anything on the website build section for backseat entertainment. Love the way the Equus was done. Are there any good aftermarket set-ups that someone has used or could suggest for headrest type DVD players? Maybe even the tablet holders that connect to the headrest supports?

2. For the DRLs...Most of the pics I've seen; show the eyebrow LEDs on. Are they just turned on from the switch... Or is this the true operation of the DRLs? I had seen quite a few different discussions on what lights come on while driving...

3. For this 17 speaker audio system...Is there a separate sub? Is the sub separately adjustable? Or does it adjust with mid and low level speaker adjustment?

4. For the key fob...I've seen mention of changing it over to the credit card type...like the Equus. For those who have done it...Is it just a simple purchase and take it to the dealer for programming? I like the idea and it fits perfect for me. I carry my phone in a flip type leather case that has room for a couple of cards.

5. I plan on driving the Kia K900 for comparison as well. Has anyone looked at or drove the K900 and can maybe offer some feedback on their experience. Everyone has an opinion...Just curious on your own personal experience...

6. Fuel type...Is the there certain octane required? 5.0? 3.8?

Everyone thanks for any advise or info...Try not to beat me up to much... :) I know a couple of these might have been asked a few times...

3. Yes, separate subwoofer on rear deck. Not exactly sure what kind of adjustments you are referring to, but there are some bass adjustments.

4. Dealer is going to charge a lot of money to program it, "if" you can get them to agree to do it, since it is not an OEM part for the USA Genesis. I know they say it is credit-card size, but is that just the length/width, or does that also include thickness? My suspicion is that it is too thick to comfortably put in most men's wallets.

6. 5.0 runs on regular or premium, with about 7 more HP with premium (and slightly better MPG). 3.8 runs on regular, and although Hyundai does not mention using premium on 3.8, I am fairly sure it also gets a little more HP and better MPG with premium. Obviously, a mid grade can also be used.

5.) We sat in the K900 down in the Fort Lauderdale Car Show. It is an awesome car. We found the price out of our reach as it was $65,000 where as the 5.0 Ultimate was about $10k less and then take an additional $5k off of that with the Hyundai Circle discount, the 2015 Genesis is the one we are going to buy.

Be sure to let us know the comparison between the K900 and the new Genesis. I would like to hear what you think the good vs bad (if there is anything bad) is between the two.

I'll offer a suggestion. I have 3 kids and when we started looking at the cost of rear seat entertainment, it was a lot cheaper to buy each kid a Kindle fire and let them watch their own movies. 1 boy and 2 girls always ended in an argument over what movie all 3 were going to watch.

That's an excellent suggestion. You could get a cheaper Android alternative tablet, but if I understand correctly, Kindle offers very good parental controls which may be worth the additional cost. And head phones of course.

Haven't driven the K900, but based on all the reviews - drives more like the Equus (just a tad bit sportier) and has more of the soft, floaty ride; whereas the 2G Genesis, while not exactly a sports sedan, has a smooth, but planted ride/handling.

The Genesis has better steering feel, but the K900 has a little more interior room and the interior is nicer (since it really competes against the Equus).

i drove the K900 (kinda what made me even consider the genny) i loved it, the ride was too floatly for my taste and the V8 MPG wasn't that great..but the tech was very impressive(you can get 95% of it if you opt for the ultimate package on the genny)just missing the front camera, reclining rear seats and 1 or 2 other items i think
