  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

looking to do some performance upgrades on my 2014 Genesis R-spec! wanted to get opinions from those who have already done and can help push me in the right direction.

planning on K&N air intake
looking for a chip, need suggestions
also exhaust. cut outs or go with new cat back? I am not interested in the car sounding like it had work done on it.

Welcome aboard and congratulation on your new R-Spec...

There are hundreds of threads in this forum that may address your questions in greater detail, but here is a high level summery:

- Unfortunately at this time there is no chip upgrades available for our V8s.

- The closest thing that can be described as performance enhancement is the ESC disable mod., here is the latest incarnation:

http://genesisowners.com/hyundai-genesis-forum/showthread.php?t=14706

- The forum has several members who upgraded their exhaust, and the general consensus is there is negligible gains and some find the 'drone' may not be worth it (so they removed these mod.s)...

- The drop in K&N filter is an easy one just for fun, as there is no off-the-shelf solution available for our V8s...

- Another one would be to change to full synthetic oil as some (me included), feel it makes the engine run quieter and smother...

- Sprint booster is another one of those add-ons that might give the 'feeling' of enhanced performance.

- The Ridgit Collar is another mod that you may find useful:

Some feel that the R-Spec badge is a bit of stretch on Hyundai's part, as most of the limited hard data we have suggest that the ECU programming automatically adapts and mostly nullify any intake or exhaust modifications that you may make to your new R-Spec.

Please feel free to search and study the forum, to see if there are somethings which might grab your interest...

Just my two cents and good luck...

LS Swap will probably be your best bet

The engine in your Genesis is pretty well optimized for the performance that it is able to make, bolt on performance parts will rarely make any gains over the factory settings. The only way to improve the performance will be with a Turbo or Supercharging, that is not the cheapest route to go, but if you want more power it is the only way to go. Of course there is Nitrous Oxide, but unless your strictly drag racing it really isn't much of a solution.

If I may...

None of these options are viable prior to cracking the ECU first! (and trust me, I have been waiting for a very long time).

Not to mention, none of these options are doable without some serious engine bay re-engineering, as there is very limited work space to start with, especially in the 5.0 trim...

In my opinion the correct answer to OP would be: there are tweaks but currently there are no (serious) performance upgrades that are currently available to us.

I do agree with you in some respects, with the R-spec sub 5 seconds 0-60 (stock with with better tires) if driven correctly will leave most (stock, for example) WRX / STi / German 550s owners jaw on the floor and should satisfy most oweners, especialy the ones that would like to stay 'under the radar'. :D

Indeed, Tailwalker already knows how far I am willing to go to hasten that process...

Let us just say I have both figures and toes crossed, as waiting for six years (and 11 days to be exact) has taken a significant amount of patience, admittedly made much easer by the trouble free motoring, low cost maintenance and the relative performance based bargain compared to the 'big boys'.. :D

I wonder what it takes to crack a ecu

I wonder what it takes to crack a ecu

At a high level:

- The right computer interface for the specific ECU.
- the right program, that can:
~ read the data from the ECU.
~ decrypt the data.
~ able to modify specific segments of the data.
~ re-encrypt the data.
~ write the modified data back to the ECU.
- Significant understanding of both ECU configuration as well as the sensor inputs and control outputs.
- Knowing exactly what are the limits of each subcomponent being modified and the interaction between them (ex: engine 'safe' redline when adjusting the transmission shift points).

In summery: almost impossible without the right tools, training and experience.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I emailed a certain someone from this forum asking if he was taking care of his version of the 5.0 to send to get cracked...never heard back... :D :p

I hope to purchase my ECU - 4.6 - today and get it sent to the 'shop', which will remain nameless until they are 100% on board with a finished product....
