  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 2009 4.6L genesis sedan. Live in Florida. Heat and soft tires not good for wear.
Replaced originals which had about 21K with Yokohama avid envigor. Almost worn out now at about 24K miles.
I need tires that have longer tread life. Anyone have good results with
Kumho Ecsta LX Platinum or something else in that price range.

Thanks
Mike

Discount Tire Direct has Falken Azenis PT722 with 440 tread wear rating in a 235/50/18. The 245/50/18 is 600 tread wear. Good reviews and very good price with free shipping.

Thanks for the info.
I have checked with tire rack. That's where I bought my Yokohama tires. Most of the reviews of tires for my car are with lower mileage. I wanted to get more reviews with someone that had tires with longer tread life like 40K.
I just don't want to spend $700-$800 on tires that don't last 25K.
I will look into the Falken tires. With free shipping and good reviews sounds like a really good deal.

Thanks
Mike

This may seem like a statement of the obvious, but make sure you have your tires aligned on a regular basis. I had a huge camber problem with my car right out of the showroom, which just tore up the inside edges of my tires. After visiting the forum, I found that the Genesis frequently are out of alignment.

I wanted a V rated 245/50/18 with good tread wear rating to replace the OEM 235 Dunlops. The Azenis PT722 at 600 (60,000 mile warranty) was the highest I found and with a $40 rebate the total delivered cost for four was $596, I'll see if they live up to the reviews.

Check the General G max with I think a 40k mile warranty. BTW it looks like I will get about 40K+ on my set of BridgestoneTuranza Serenity tires.

Cooper Tire CS4 T rating= $650 and 80K warranty
V rating = $750 and 60K warranty.

I will be replacing with CS4 T rating in the near future. I believe that around April Cooper Tire will offer some incentives.

Harder compound, longer tread life. Softer, shorter. Just the law of physics. And, obviously your driving style.

TR is a great resource to try and figure out what could be your best alternative.

Personally, for the "price" (read expensive), Michelin Primacy MVX4 tires are a great balance of hard vs soft. That's why they are expensive.

Just my 2 cents ...

There are newer compounds that are both soft and give long tread life, but they are expensive, as you mentioned.

However, as posted by others, certain suspensions (especially if misaligned) wear tires faster than others. Based on my experience, and reading many posts in this forum, I suspect that tires on a Genesis are going to wear faster than some other cars, because of the alignment settings used by Hyundai to improve steering responsiveness (sometimes at the cost of straight line accuracy).

I agree with you that Michelin Primacy are great tires, but apparently only available for 17" Genesis tire sizes.

how did you like the Envigor?
did it ride softer or quieter than the OEM Dunlops?

consumer reports rates the envigor as highly as the tires popular on this site, eg serenity and DWS.

Acutally I was not that impressed. They are softer rubber and since I live in florida, the hot pavement in summer probably wears them out faster. I'm down to 3/32" after about 25K miles. Noise was about the same as originals. They may wear better in cooler climates but not here. I'm thinking of trying the Falkens. Haven't quit decided yet. Still researching.

Another point to consider is buying tires online and then trying to deal with the prorated warranty. If you bought from Tire rack they will give you 10% off your next purchase if you don't want to deal with the warranty.
To get the prorated warranty on tires they have to be worn down to 2/32" on each pair of tires and across all tread. Then pay for shipping to send them back.

depending on road conditions and weather, they never last like they're supposed to, i just put 60K's on my hyundai, thinkin i'll get 45 out of em

Roads on FL are not that 'good' for tires: The road surface mix oftten contains crushed coral. You will have to look for a tire with a high temp rating and long tread life. Out here in AZ, if you buy tires and don't really check the temp rating, you can very well exceed the tire's temp rating before ever backing out of the garage. LoL..
