  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My 2009 Genesis has a 4.6 TAU engine (114,000 miles) that is apparently too broken and too complicated to fix. I have posted here previously about the problems with the entire right side out of time. Several mechanics have told me to just buy and swap another used engine.

Does anyone know a reliable source for used engines? Also does anyone know if the newer 5.0 or the V6 engine will swap out without any major modifications? And are the other engines compatible with the 6 speed automatic transmission.

Any advice appreciated.

a few days ago I was surfing e-bay, I saw Genny sedan that was a total and the seller was parting out the car. If I were you I would contact the seller to see if the engine is available, it is a 2009 4.6
with 22,197 miles on it. The seller is New & Salvage the phone # is 800 238 3469. The stock # is 13G220. Hope it works for you.

I remember your problem . Is your car a possible flood car? Just curious .

Not that I am aware of. I bought it from a Hyundai dealer coming in from a 36month lease with 74,000 miles on it. $18,000 seemed like an OK deal at the time. It seems really clean except for an engine that doesn't want to run and it always tended to have brake problems.

If you have had brake problems, you should read some threads in this forum dealing with that subject, even if you car is out of warranty. Also, you probably should file a complaint with the NHTSA if you encountered any kind of problem that could be considered to be a safety issue. The NHTSA is currently investigating this issue.

My wife is having a similar problem to your first failure and I got a quote of $4K wholesale for a 30K miles uses 4.6, maybe $5k retail. I believe, the warranty company is rebuilding her engine, in part because Hyundai has no availability of reman engines. Doug

You asked about V6.. There are posts on here where they have complete crate V6 engines for sale. For the Coupe... But is same motor. Bet it would fit.

Going to a v6 from the 4.6 v8 would require different ECM, front springs, engine mounts, steering, ac mounts, and several other related items. Possibly different transmission bell housing and torque converter.
