  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello, everyone!!

I have placed a deposit on a 2022 2.5T RWD Prestige. I was sooo impressed with all of the features and with the sound system that I placed a deposit on it before it was inspected and before I test drove it. When I returned home that evening, I researched the vehicle's VIN and all of the recalls and possible issues reported on it. Consumer Reports rated it 14th out of 21 from a reliability perspective. My heart sank...:( I saw electrical, alarm, and powertrain issues/complaints... Ooohhh noooo... Would you please share with me what your negative experiences have been with your G80, and what you like/love about it? I typically keep my vehicles for a looong time (up to 20 years) and am fearful of purchasing a sleek/sexy money pit. Respectfully...

I'm on my sixth Hyundai/Genesis auto. Why 6? They have proven to be more reliable than other brands of 20 other cars I've owned. Perfect? No, brand is, but no serious issues. I don't buy extended warranty, but I don't keep a car 20 years. You may want to consider one for peace of mind.

You've seen the good parts of the G80, you will enjoy the nice features.

Thanks sooo much for your quick response! Congrats on how reliable your 6 vehicles have been for you!! I typically wouldn't buy an extended warranty, either; however, I have read how expensive the electrical features can be to repair! By the way, is it true that the 10-year powertrain warranty does not fully transfer to the next owner of the car? Thanks again for your support!!

From what I have read, the 10/100 power train warranty will not transfer to the second owner.

For the second owner, the 10/100 becomes 5/60.

From a Google search. Did you buy it as a CPO?

For a second owner of a Genesis vehicle, the 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty is reduced to a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty, while the 5-year/60,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty remains transferable.
Here's a more detailed breakdown:

Original Owner:
Receives the full 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty and the 5-year/60,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty.

Second Owner:
Powertrain Warranty: The powertrain warranty is reduced to 5 years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first.

Bumper-to-Bumper Warranty: The remaining portion of the 5-year/60,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty is transferable.

Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) Genesis:
If you purchase a CPO Genesis, you get the 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty reinstated.

CPO Warranty: CPO vehicles come with a 6-year/75,000-mile extended CPO Limited Warranty and a 10-year/100,000-mile CPO Powertrain Limited Warranty.

My biggest fear is buying any car produced during or soon after the pandemic when there were SO many issues with getting parts (parts made) and skeleton crews working to assemble said cars etc. Really bad era to be buying a car from. I'd say after late 2023 on would be more advisable.

I appreciate your response, David-R!! :)

Thanks for sharing your opinion about considering a late 2023 G80! I imagine that the Prestige features would be the same for the 2023 G80?

Many thanks for the thorough response, Tinsley!! Much appreciated!! :)

We had a 2010 Genesis -60k miles, no issues. Bought a 2015 - 50k miles - no issues. Now have a 2023 - 25K miles - no issues. These cars are quite reliable in my experience. Most of my extended family drive Hyundai product and they have proven quite reliable. Just my experience.

Sooo appreciate your response, Rickfen!!😊

I bought my 2019 G80 sport as a CPO with 58600 miles so the B2B was just about done anyway. I did get the extended warranty just for peace of mind with all of the electronics in this thing. So far it has helped me quite a bit. Other than a co-pay, covered the oil pressure sender issue, a fuel pump, and a couple other minor things. More than covered the cost of the warranty. Worth it in my opinion. You can negotiate the cost on them as well.
To the original point, I love my G80, comfort, drivability, looks. Anything used is a crap shoot, give it a good test drive and go with your gut. Good luck.

Powertrain warranty gets reduced for 2nd owner because otherwise, there really wouldn't be a point of having a CPO program.

If concerned about reliability, better to get a MY that's in the latter stages of the model lifecycle.

Hello, Everyone!!

I have wonderful news!! I took delivery of my 2022 G80 2.5T RWD (Prestige) in May!! I did purchase a 7-yr warranty via my credit union for peace of mind. I also bought the ceramic paint protection offered. I must say that I LOVE her!!! I have absolutely NO buyer’s remorse!!

I have been sooo impressed with all of the safety features, the sound system, its acceleration, how I get a back massage if I am driving for an hour, all of the complements on how beautiful she is…. 🥰

Thanks sooo much for everyone’s kind, thoughtful, and thorough responses to my initial post. I took all of it into consideration as I moved forward with my purchase!!

Kindest Regards!!

NewGenny 💕

Ooops….my bad!!! :giggle: Thanks, rfgf1!!

I need to take a pic from the front, as well! As we know, the grill is a head turner! 🤭

This pic was taken by my neighbor via text. She wanted to make sure that it was my car!!😄 The last time that I bought a vehicle was in 2007…😳😁Genny_1.webp
