  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello all, I just bought a used 2011 Equus Signature and I already have some questions. First up is there anyway to shut off adaptive cruise control? I can't stand how the car brakes when I'm coming down a hill or if someone is moving at a slower speed less than 85 feet in front of me. It's driving me nuts and it's driving the people behind me nuts because it appears I'm a tapping my brake every few seconds on the highway; I understand I can adjust the distance but I really just want to turn it off, completely.

Secondly, I can hear a sound coming from the vehicle when I turn my wheels. Doesn't matter how sharp the turn is, the best way to describe the sound is like a mattress spring. I'm not sure if it's the rack and pinion, or the steering column, any thoughts would be appreciated.

You should be able to shut off cruise control completely, but you can't get regular cruise control without the adaptive part.

I would take it to the dealer on the steering issue.

you cant shut off the adaptive part of the cruise control when using it
You can adjust the parameters of distance though

The noise in the front end sounds like an issue that needs repair
I bought a 2011 late last year..and one of the things that had just been done was a front strut replacement under factory warranty
In fact I noticed a couple of cars I looked at had had strut replacement in their warranty history

The adaptive cruise without an option to switch off the radar is the worst feature of the car, imho. The braking going down hills is bad news as well.

The cruise, and the nav are the two negative features of the car. The rest are, for the most part, great.

I'd love to see a factory reprogramming option available for the cruise to be able to shut off the radar.

I think its typical to not be able to turn off the "adaptive" part of the cruise control
My last car had the adaptive cruise and it was the same way
and yes...the nav is not great

If there is a cop at the bottom of the hill with a speed trap setup, then it's not such bad news after-all.

I have not seen a car that the adaptive/smart part of the cruise control can be turned off. My Mercedes is the same and my neighbor's BMW is the same. And of course my 2011 Genesis is the same. I like it and use it everyday.

The G2 Genesis can turn off the SCC and just have regular, old fashioned cruise control (just holds a speed) by pressing and holding the vehicle-to-vehicle distance button on the steering wheel for ~ 2 seconds.

At least the Hyundai dealers have some extra income derived from the more frequent brake jobs as a result of the downhill braking.

The cruise works well....on flat ground, two lane roads such as in Florida. I leave it off for the most part in hilly country. I'll never buy a vehicle with it again unless it can be switched to standard cruise like the newer Genesis/Equus cars.

All my other cars have either downshifted while going downhill, or done nothing at all. I like coasting to improve mileage and avoid upsetting the drivers behind me with frequent brake lights like I'm driving two footed. (Seems to be more prevalent with Buick drivers along with the left-turn signal left on) :)

I also have a 2013 Genesis Coupe that has regular cruise control and I use it all the time. Honestly the adaptive nonsense is driving me BANANAS and it's literally making everyone behind me road rage because they think I'm taping my breaks; I may live in Florida but the highways are not flat by any means so going down even the slightest hills is causing me a lot of aggravation. I drive a lot; I'm about to cut some wires and see what happens, it's literally getting to that point, I'm gonna rip the damn front bumper off and go to town.

Honestly
I am a fan of adaptive cruise
I had it on my last car...and frankly I don't like regular cruise control due to the fact that you have to adjust it for traffic
Adaptive is set and forget

+1

I can't argue with the fact that it's pretty cool, what's not cool is I don't have an option to shut if off...:(

If it's anything like the Kia Cadenza here's how you do it.

You have to enable cruise control first so the little green cruise control icon is active. (Don't use it! Just enabled)

Then, hold down the distance control button (the one you'd use to select how far you want to be behind the car ahead of you)

In the Cadenza, after 3-5 seconds I get a beep, that said Adaptive Cruise Control disabled or something along those lines. After that, it behaves like ordinary cruise control. I don't think it saves that setting though after the car is shut off.

It works the same way on my 2015 Ultimate.

That is good to know, I do not use my cruise control, the few times
I did I was not fond of the adaptive part.

I will give the button hold down a try on my Ultimate.

Like I had already posted on page 1 of this thread...

The vehicle-to-vehicle distance button did not disable the adaptive cruise control; thanks for sharing though everyone.
