New 2012 4.6!

Picked up my new car today (will post pictures tomorrow) - a white (with saddle over black interior) 4.6L Genesis!

Quick observations - dang this is one quiet car! Today was my first chance to drive a 2012....not much difference from the 2011 that I drove, that I can recall. I would say that the steering feel is better on the 2012 - as others have described it feels heavier, more connected. I like it.

What I can say with certainty (sorry for those with the V6), is the V8 Genesis drive much much better than the V6 cars. Two different cars - the V8 feels finished... the V6 feels like its not quite ready. If you are considering.....I highly recommend that you just forget the V6. The mileage difference comes out to aprox $60/month if you drive 2000 mile month like I do.... your difference in monthly expense is likely much less.... get the V8 - be happy.

I traded in an Audi A5 (needed to get into a 4 door) and while the Genesis is a different type of vehicle, it handles extremely well....I'm not missing the Audi! The Genesis is quieter but rides and feels similar to my A5 - a little softer ride (a positive for me) than the A5 but still feels very composed. The V8 is amazing... I wasn't unhappy with the Audi 3.2L V6 for power but the Genesis kicks it up a notch in straight line performance!

On the inside - absolutely love the smart cruise control! Features wise I have very few complaints. This is very close to being a perfect car.....no joke. Needs to have a cooled passenger seat, touchscreen, blind side monitor, heated steering wheel and AWD for us northern climate folks. Shortcomings aside this car is amazing when balanced against what it cost.

Biggest surprise? The Auto Hold feature.... simple little thing but gives the car that extra touch. On the other hand, the Lane Departure Warning System seems to have marginal value - it works quite well and it actually did warn me that I was drifting my lane because I was playing with buttons but the warning chime could be louder - maybe there is a hidden menu at the dealer to raise that volume? A blind spot monitor would be more useful to me.

That's my quick observations on this car.... going to take it out for another drive!

Congratulation and welcome to the club!

Just got back from dealership with 2012 4.6 Black/black.
Did all negotiations via phone and email, still spent almost 3 hrs at Fitz.
Used Circle price and Motozuma, no problems, dealer accepted both.
Traded in leased Infiniti M35, getting value we wanted took about an hour.
Day before went to Carmax and their quote was unexpectedly high, about $4k more than loan payoff. Fitz dealer offered about the same as my payoff. Showed them Carmax offer, took about an hour of back & forth negotiation to bring the value up to acceptable level considering the sales tax advantage.
No pressure to buy any additional treatments.
Fitz is offering rebadging for $499! Ouch!
Signing & financing went quickly, they do Suntrust financing instead of Hyundai.
Showed them offer from PNC bank with lower APR, guy matched it without saying a word.

Dealer mentioned people rarely use Circle, even more rarely - Motozuma. I think I was first because manager was asking me to how to access it and how to use it!

Car is sweet! Handles better than my M35.
Just waiting for my rebadge kit to come, may be will order stainless door pillars later.

We were last to leave dealership, with the salesperson and manager. Manager got into my (former) Infiniti and drove to White Flint mall!

For financing - look at Pentagon Federal Cr Union - Payment Saver Loan. All the advantage of a lease without the lease.

That's quite interesting, wish I knew about it before.
Their's residuals are very close to the ones Hyundai offers in Trade-in value guarantee.
Don't you need to be a federal employee or Pentagon employee to qualify?

You can join PenFed as a member of the Red Cross or you can join a couple of 'groups' like Voices for America's Troops and pay a onetime membership fee of $15..... pretty easy to become a member of PenFed.

I am waiting on my dealer to get a 2012 Genesis 4.6 Black/Black and after a test drive I will decide if I will trade my 2010 Genesis 4.6 Black/Black. I test drove the 2012 Genesis 3.8 and although I thought the suspension change was very moderate I did notice the change for the better.
I too would prefer blind spot warning over lane departure, cool and height adjustment on the passenger seat. As I live in an area where we can get allot of snow I have never run into any major problems with my Genesis or any rear wheel drive car but I am probably one of a few that would prefer FWD wheel drive. I have heard of some complaints with AWD having a tendency to vibrate and I have felt this vibration on one AWD Cadillac STS that I had an opportunity to drive, however I did not feel it on an Lincoln MKZ that I test drove but had read were some owners had.
When Hyundai puts AWD in the Genesis I do not know that I would get it and it is for this reason that I may go for the 2012 and not wait for AWD.
I am also not interested in the new 5.0 engine and have heard of some complaints with a clicking or ticking sound at idle. Lexus had the same problem in the 2007 LS460, I know because I owned one. They too claimed it was normal but later changed that tune and issued a TSB to correct it.

Have driven/owned many cars from different manufacturers and never had an AWD car vibrate. You should not even know that AWD is built in until one day you realize that you dont even think about the weather anymore

I gave up AWD in my new Genesis because I have other AWD cars to drive when needed. I am curious to drive this car in some snow for old time sake in RWD - but I suspect the ESC technology changes all the bad problems associated with RWD

ESC definitely helps, but FWD cars typically have at least 60% of the weight over the drive wheels, which is going to be an advantage over almost all RWD cars that are closer to 50-50 or even 54-46 (except for cars like Porsche with rear-engine RWD).

finally, someone who corroborates my observation that there is no significant difference between the 2010/2011 and 2012 suspension.

also, it seems like many people are buying the genesis after comparing the german and Lexus brands, or having previously owned the luxury brands. this is not supposed to be happening (as the price difference is so great), but i guess it has become so obvious to many people that the genesis is a true luxury car.

Initially Hyundai thought that potential buyers would come from the Accord and Camry type crowd (like myself).
After the launch in 2008 in NA they found out that the majority of interest came from premium brands. I guess their initial marketing surveys were off a bit.
There was an interview with John Krafcik by C&D in which he says this.

I found objectionable (and you know I'm not alone) the cars ride over pot holes, expansion joints, well you've seen the list...just about anything that wasn't smooth. Weird how people question wether there is a difference in the pre and post 2012 suspension. Hyundai reported a "re-tuning" of the suspension for the 2012 vehicle. Nextcar you figure Hyundai reported (lied ?) about this? People should test drive it for themselves. What else changed was that the car just doesn't feel as taut/rigid driving down the road. Read the comments at consumer reports about the pre '12 ride. Lots of adjectives like buckboard, unforgiving, stiff occur in almost every mention of the pre '12 ride. The Genesis for me was ( but for the suspension) a nearly perfect car yet I was more than ready to unload my 2010. I enjoy my 2012 Genesis more everyday. It's as if the suspension has grown up. If I perceived no difference (and a SIGNIFICANT difference) I would be now driving a Lexus or MB. Oh well "to each his own".

would be nice if they came out with an adjustable suspension like some of the high end cars. I am one of those that prefers a 'sport' feel that hugs the road more. My current genesis is almost too fluffy on the suspension.

you are certainly entitled to your opinion. if you feel a big difference, great!
for me, after multiple test drives of 2011 and 2012, i could not tell a difference.
i don't need to listen to professional reviewers, who by the way were mostly referring to the early 2009 genesis. they, by the way, do not compare the new 2012 with the older models, as they simply don't have 2 cars side by side to compare.

The comments I cited from consumer reports are from owners not the author of the review. I'm not a professional reviewer and I assume those people posting here aren't either. What I am is a guy who owned a 2010 for a year and I drove it daily and my opinion (shared by many on here and elsewhere) is that it was too harsh over any uneven surface. I'll just bet the reason Hyundai re-tuned AND announced said re-tuning was exactly because of the frequency of this complaint...BUT BUT if it turns out there is no perceived difference by you or anyone else then you win! You get to pay less for essentially the same car. Of course there isn't a need to listen to anyone professional or otherwise just head down to the dealer for a test ride.
