  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I just wanted to introduce myself to the forum and thank everyone for the extremely helpful information provided. I traded in my 2010 Genesis Couple 3.8 Track for the 5.0 RSpec. While I liked my coupe, it had a serious issue with vibration that could not be fixed (see propeller shaft issues). Given that I drive over 100 miles to work round trip, I began to loathe driving.

Thus, I used the great information in this forum to negotiate a deal on a 2012 5.0 R Spec for $39600 and got $21000 for my trade. While there was about $1800 of negative equity, I still consider it a great deal at 2.35%.

First impressions:
Driving: I am shocked at how quiet and seamless the power delivery is. I have owned some relatively quick cars, but the 50-80MPH passing power is awesome. If I want to drive Eco, fine. If I want to stomp on it, the power is there. I love having that option:)

Interior Comfort: I initially was luke warm to the interior styling. As I significantly value the look and feel of the interior, I thought this was going to be a deal breaker, but the layout and quality of the gauges and screens are on par with the best in the industry (sans the new Lexus GS). I applaud the comfort of the driver seat and the numerous adjustments you can make to it and the steering wheel to find the perfect position.

Additionally, I cannot explain the difference in overall ambient sound levels as compared to the Coupe. Minimal road and wind noise and minimal intrustion from the powertrain. Maybe I am getting old, but after working 12-14 hours I just want to listen to some music, relax in a quiet environment, and haul ass home!

Handling: Another potential deal breaker. While I love straight ahead speed, I have a lot of curvy roads on my way to work. Being able to maintain my speed and not have significant roll was key. I thoroughly understand that this isn't a M5 or even a 528. However, I will never track my car and being able to drive 7/10ths with ease is awesome! I stopped caring what Car and Driver and Motor Trend think long ago. I am just not willing to trade all of the comfort this car provides for a >.9 skid pad rating.

Dislikes: The smell of the interior. No real way to close the trunk without touching the outside paint or slamming it. The rake of the windshield causes many bug deaths.

Overall Impression: I am such a picky car person that I keep a swiffer in my door to dust it. Given that, I cannot be happier so far. The Genesis doesn't excel at anything, but does almost everything right for how I drive and my life style.

Looking forward to spending more time here.:grouphug:

Your drive to and from work sounds fun.

Welcome to the Sedan forums.

Welcome to the forums & I appreciate your initial impressions and purchasing details as I look forward to stepping into an R-spec as well.

:grouphug: Welcome

There is a plastic handle on the inside of the trunk lid more towards the passenger side for closing the trunk (no slamming needed) without touching the paint. My wifes 2006 Sonata even has this feature.

Yeah, I realize that. However, you still have to swing it down hard. My Acura TL Type S had a much better design. No big deal either way.

I don't look forward to work, but I do look forward to the drive. Only time during the day I have to myself.

You can use that handle to get the trunk very close to shut... then just "flick" it to seal the deal!

Trust me... we all feel the same way. :)

Sometimes I wish the exhaust was a bit meatier... but it's great when you have someone in the car that isn't aware of what's under the hood, especially considering how insulated the interior is. Hit that gas pedal, and pin them to the seat for some awesome reactions...

Enjoy your 5.0!

Tun off the radio and open all the windows. The double paned glass is shielding you from the V8 goodness.
Yeah but then my flowing hair will get messed up!

Oh... right.

I'll try it.

Welcome to the madness.

And you don't really have to pull that hard on the handle. ;)

a little practice goes a long way. :)

Welcome! Great post too.

Stop talking abouthow great the 5.0 R SPec is please. I am getting jealous that I did not bother looking at it, but I still have my 2012 4.6 Tau, so I will be happy!! LMAO. I guess that whe yo have something you always want the next step up, huh! Enjoy the extra 44ponies!

Guess I rear lip spoiler adds just enough weight to minimize the "pull"

Maybe! Funny, but my wife compares everything in this car to the Acura. "Oh, these pockets in the door bend out like the Acura.....the Nav is a lot like the Acura...blah, blah".

Guess she really like that car?

I have to tell you, having a back seat and a trunk is serious undervalued. I missed it.

Also, the biggest upgrade I made to my Coupe was tires. I might have to be a little "heavy footed" in the first 10k miles so I can get some better shoes for this thing.

I have certainly learned something about myself in all these years. If there is a better or newer version of my car, I will pine for it until I get it. Thus, I didn't even consider anything other than the R-Spec. Great technology and that monster engine.

Although, the 4.6 has more than enough power.

Agree. It certainly serves it's purpose. I have yet to see an R Spec in Miami. My eyes are always scanning the road, but the 5.0's are hiding.

There's a pretty good Coupe following in Miami, but me thinks the R Spec wouldn't be a good seller there. Girls don't drop panties for a Hyundai like they would for a 4-door coupe like a CLS or A7;)

LMAO! I agree, I do see many coupes on the road, and a good amount of the sedans, about 50/50 3.8 to 4.6, but the R Spec remains elusive!!! I do not get the stare downs many people speak about, although i see a neck turn here and there in a parking lot, but when you are on the road with all the exotic sports cars we have down here, I understand why. I care care less about the attn, I like the quiet cabin that helps me escape from the world while driving. Just wish the iPod integration was better. Like your wife, I compare this car to certain features that my Acura TL SH-AWD, which the Genesis replaced, excelled at; voice commands, ipod integration, NAV. But they are minor issues in the end.
