  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 3.8 AWD 2017 G80. I cannot find how to change the oil and where the filter is. The car was in an accident, so I do not get the free oil changes, so I wanted to change my self. So far I love the car. I have an 2004 Audi A8, that I thought was a dream to drive, does not even compare to this. Thanks in Advance

Jeff

I posted the following in the "G80 Sport Oil Change 3>3T Turbo" thread April 26, 2018 for a 2018 G80 Sport (3.3L twin turbo V6) AWD/HTRAC. I expect the 3.8 AWD 2017 G80 would be similar.

There are 2 separate covers for the oil filter and oil drain plug. Looking at the windshield from front of car.... Underneath car under center of engine the first cover (about 4" x 4") is for oil filter. About 3 inches further back is the cover (about 5" x 5") for the oil drain plug (bolt head pointing toward rear of vehicle). There is an picture of an old school oil can on this cover. These covers are secured with a mix of hex head bolts AND trim plastic pop rivets (weird!). They must have run out of bolts and had extra rivets laying around at the factory that day ;)

Thanks, sounds like it is easier than my Audi A8, you have to take half the engine apart to remove the filter(Exaggeration a little bit)

Relative to my 2011 Genesis 3.8 it's harder. The 2011 had the oil filter on top of engine between manifold and firewall. Oil filter change was a breeze.

On the 2018 I use a floor jack on the front right jack point (left front would have worked to), to give me more room to get under the car.

The access panel for the oil filter is "frigged" up/wrong. It needs to be shifted toward the drivers side a few inches so a standard wrench with a 90 degree head can be used. You'll need a wrench with a flexible head (about 71.2 degrees) to tighten/loosen the oil filter cap/cover.

I dug up some photos from my last/first oil change at 5K miles on my 2018 G80 Sport (3.3L TT) AWD.

First of all thank you so much for posting, I wonder what the consequence would be if you did not put the covers back on?

Not putting covers back on (especially the front/filter cover) may allow water, dirty, snow, ice, road kill and gravel to get into the lower engine compartment. My covers ARE/WILL go back on.

I speculate your 2017 Genny was 1/2 to 2/3's the cost of your A8. Nice ride, the A8, BTW. I considered an A6, but the Genny was the better value and lower maintenance costs IMO.

Welcome to the Genesis family.

Yes it was, long story about the Genesis, sorry to bore you, but when I saw the G80 my wife and I fell in love with it. We looked took for test drive and was even more impressed. Then found out it had a rebuilt title. so we backed away. I called Genesis in California and asked if I would still get the 5yr 60,000(2nd owner). They told me an emphatic YES. Gave them the VIN number, documented who I talked to exactly what she said etc... They even documented our conversation(by VIN). After purchasing the car, was told now that I do not have warranty by local dealership. Called Genesis in CA. and they said even though I was told by this lady and even though THEIR, not my, documentation shows the same thing, they CANNOT honor the warranty. So little disappointed in that, but no frame damage or other issues, had it checked out after I bought it. Looks it on a couple of trips so far and what a ride. Impressed.

That is rather frustrating/aggravating. They did not honor their commitment. Maybe a letter to Hyundai/Genesis HQ explaining the issue and requesting resolution.
