New 3.0 with 249hp whaaaaat?

How come in U.S we didn't get this version?

http://youtu.be/JIS_wZSJJfc

And they get fog lights in V6

Also someone eariler mention the UAE gets more features with three engine choices.

I think Hyundai USA could have done better then this. :(

Just curious, why in the world would you want a 3L V6 with over 60hp less?

Hyundai makes decisions based on Geography and according to them there is no fog in the US. I do have to admit the fog light thing is really weird. In Canada they come standard with fog lights from the base model up to the loaded model. Hyundai Canada made some better decisions IMHO such as real wood on all except the base model and the AWD V8 along with european spec led DRLs and suede head liner on the ultimate. Only thing I wish they would have in addition would be the soft close doors otherwise I am lovin everything about this car.

When you look at the prices of the US models vs in other markets, you will see they are usually substantially less in the US. And dealers sell them for about $4,000 less than MSRP.

When HMA decides how to configure the trim levels, and at same time to offer the Genesis at prices much less than other countries, they have meet certain cost objectives that mean that some features must be dropped from the US models.

Part of this is because Hyundai still has a bad reputation in the US going back to the 1980's and 1990's when their quality was poor. Because of that, they have to price Hyundai's below their competitors, especially in the luxury market, and therefore have to sometimes cut features to meet those pricing objectives.

I disagree. While it is true that Hyundai had a terrible reputation, (almost as bad as the Lada), they have definitely overcome that at least since 2005 or so. The 2010 Sonata was a great car and very well received by the press. I think that car put the final nail in the Bad Rep coffin. I don't believe anyone cares any more about how bad those early cars were.

I agree that Hyundai has made great improvements in quality (otherwise I would not own one), but we are talking about reality vs perception of the average buyer, not just auto analysts or Hyundai owners. What's worse, is that the average Genesis buyer is old enough to remember the "old" Hyundai.

In the world of luxury automobiles Hyundai cannot compete dollar for dollar against the other brands. They must come in at a lower price, and that may dictate that they leave off some features in the US version that are found on Genesis in other countries. Just the price differential between Genesis in the US vs Genesis in other countries shows that Hyundai is buying market share in the US by discounting the Genesis.

I think the issue is revisited as Hyundai moves upstream in the luxury market against previous leaders. Without creating a separate division (ex. Lexus, Infiniti), they will face increased consumer scrutiny as they move up into the $45K+ market where the perception of quality is presumed to be with the German and Japanese sub brands. Interestingly, I think their original brands (Toyota and Nissan) have a better reputation than the up scale divisions now.

Ironically, the original purpose of importing the Genesis and Equus to the US and selling them as a Hyundai was not to sell Genesis and Equus cars. It was to improve the brand image of Hyundai in the US to sell more Sonata and Elantra units. The mantra was "build the brand."

Numerous marketing studies revealed that most Accord and Camry buyers never even considered (or looked at) the Sonata. The situation has improved quite a bit for Hyundai in the last 5 years, so their strategy is working (along with making some excellent cars) but they are still not quite where they want to be yet.

Agreed with rest of your statement, and answer to your first questions.
If I had the options to choose 3L with little better mpg. I would have gone with ultimate package. Oh and also if the Hyundai US where nice I would have gone with black front grill, also you get over view camera with self door closing and over head ambient lighting this is all luxury we are missing. Don't get me wrong this is the best car I ever had, feel safe in it. It's just been tech savvy would love to have those extra features. :)

You are right about the price difference, but that wouldn't be that bad cz if you go with 3.0 will overall reduce the total production cost and then it gives you option to add more features. Which I mentioned in above comment. Also who needs bluelink and siriusxm.

Apparently, Hyundai Motor America decided that they would not be able to sell many Genesis with a 3.0 engine. Cars in the USA tend have larger V6 than 3.0 (unless it is a twin turbo or something).

You have a big problem my friend. You seem to like things all dress however it's not often an automobile manufacturer offers a fully loaded version when you select the minimal power plant. I would assume if they offered the 3L it probably would be on a base, less featured model. You almost need to go with European brands where you can pick and chose almost at will and have it made to order so to say. Unfortunately the Koreans, Americans and Japanese are no longer doing this in the name of cost savings so you get what they deem suits you which means no freakin fog lights. :p

Now that is coming from a person who drives V8 genesis the strongest vehicle on the planet period, and let her wife drive what cube what is that thing? 1.4 2cylinder something. You have even bigger problem then me my friend :-/

All I'm trying to say is that 90% of the other countries are getting more options then U.S.

I learned long ago to let my wife have what she wants and not what I want. ;) Now if you must know, the cube is history and she is replacing it with a 2015 Fiat 500L which will arrive in April as it was custom ordered. It will have every option available and a puny little 1.4 litre 4 banger but at least it is blown. :D

Sun, I doubt your wife will purchase a "4" cyl engine badge to place under the hood of her new car. :grouphug:

Ah but she does let me fiddle with it once it's in the driveway. In fact the very first day we got the cube the entire front end was off to install led fog lights and a decent sounding horn not to mention hid lights and eye brow led style drl's. ;) Oh, since the Fiat is Italian I may put something more impressive on it like Ferrari.

Midnight, is the Fiat you ordered the Abarth?

If I were you. I would get my wife the new 4 door mini Cooper with IIHS+ rating its one sexy looking car with same crash prevention features. Come on don't get her fiat. The only reason they exist in American market is cz some how they manage to buy chrysler group. They have the most poor crash test...

Nope not the Abarth however the Abarth engine is what's in the 500L. The 500L is the big version of the 500 just like Mini with their Countryman. We looked at the mini however the ride is well documented as terrible however the car handles really well, kinda like a go kart but that is what you feel like you are driving suspension wise. We are both past 50 and would really like some comfort you know.

The new small overlap frontal test have proven very difficult for almost all cars and will force manufacturers to build accordingly which is a good thing for us all. The Fiat 500L did poorly in this one test however prior to this test it did extremely well in all other tests. In fact the only small car to do well in this test was the Mini Countryman. Mazda, Nissan, you name it, all did poorly. That being said, I would not base my purchase on crash test results however scoring high in all areas does give you a warm and fuzzy feeling and I am please to say if we have an accident we will make sure we are driving the G as it passed this test and all others with flying colors.

My wife has some minor mobility problems so access and visibility are among the more important features and no way can the 500L be beat for those. Definitely a funky car and you really need to sit in one to understand what brings a person to buy one of the weird things. You either love it or hate it. ;)

Alright Sir I get it. Stay safe in your new 500L, I remember I have seen one in NY auto show kinda look like a MINI mini van. And you are right the country man is the one I will get cz it got the best ratings oh and we both are under 25 :) so maybe that's why we love it. Speaking of age to be honest every time I visited mini showroom there is always one at least over 60 year old gentleman sitting next to computer with salesman customizing his mini with 1000 different ways I guess they all are British :p
