If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi guys just put a new battery in my 2012 Genesis Sedan today. After six years of service decide it was time for a new one. Got one at a local Car Quest Auto parts store for $145 plus taxes. Minus $20 for the old one so I think that was a good deal. The dealer wanted $350 for one and Wal-Mart was $166 PLUS THE TAXES. Hope this one last the next six years. And yes I had to reset all of my settings. Seats, clock, Radio etc.

The last 7 yrs I have used the autozone agm battery and have great luck. Just replaced my 13 rspec with one

Wow! If the dealer wanted $350 for a battery and if I had a choice I would blacklist him. I've generally found the conglomerate dealers are more profit driven and less honest than locally owned dealers. Just my opinion but probably not always true?

Resetting the settings the the only thing I don't like about changing batteries.

If the battery's in the trunk, it would be easy to attach a source of 12 volts to the front under-the-hood terminals. Even a little 9 volt dry cell would probably work.
This would save your settings.

Also, nowadays, there are all kinds of commercial settings savers that plug into the OBD port.

I used my battery charger to keep power on the leads as I changed my battery. Worked great. Just be careful to insulate (towel, etc) connections (charger to terminal clamp) while moving the old battery out and the new one in.

That's a good point. Thank you

I am not an expert on this subject, but I read somewhere that simply attaching a small 9 volt battery can cause problems when the new battery is installed. The 9-volt battery may explode or something unless there is the correct electronics in the circuit (like a diode or something). So a commercial product would be preferred, even a simple one with the necessary circuit.

I must be lucky as when I changed my battery with that AutoZone AGM too I did not lose any settings. Easy install.

I have a 2011 4.6. Is an AGM battery required or can a wet cell be used? What are the benefits of AGM? Thanks.

Whatever battery is comparable to your existing one (in the manual) you are good. AGM - you can mount it sideways, upside down, no water/no maintenance, no gases, blah blah blah....If you are serious about performance, check out BRAILLE batteries (AGM). They are the truth. $$$$ but the truth.

My $.098 cents LOL

The battery is in the trunk and yes an AGM battery is necessary due to all the electronics.

You could used a wet cell battery without any concern. I just replaced my battery with a 4.6L a couple of months ago and I went with Walmart because they had the best price, specs and warranty plus the battery was constructed with a built in carrying handle. I paid $121 with old core and the warranty is for 5 years, totally replaceable for first 3 years without charge and prorated for the last 2 years of the warranty. I suspect the price would vary by area.

AGM is 100% worth it in any vehicle. The power reserve and charge/discharge capabilities are noce. Not much more money considering what is does and for many years. I like AutoZone as they keep all warranty info in their system so easy if tgere is an issue.
I have their AGM in our Tahoe that my wife drives and after 2 years the alternator went out. The battery alone powered the car for nearly 3 days before the battery light came on!
I got a new alternator from AutoZone and they even gave me a new battery for free. Just in case they said

Anyone put a Costco battery in their Genny?
I couldn't find an H8 at my Costco, but I believe they are made by Interstate and should be fine if you can find one.

I asked guys in tire center at my Costco. They told me they don't sell batteries for my car.
I went with AGM battery from AutoZone.

Did anyone install the possible "oversized" battery, or did everyone just use the "stock" size????

What is the oversize battery designation? The standard H8 is pretty darn big already.

If you want to use a longer battery than H8, then the hold-down bracket that fits on the bottom front of the battery would have to be moved, and new holes drilled to attach the bracket.

I live in AZ and my 2012 3.8 w/only 36K miles is on it's 3rd battery. OEM lasted 23 months and the dealer replaced free under warranty. That one lasted 27 months and I had the same dealer install a another new Hyundai battery. The wanted $249.00 installed BUT it has a $0 deductible lifetime warranty at any of their dealerships (AutoNation). At the rate I'm going through batteries, I figured i'd get at least 1 or two more freebies before I decide to sell the car.
