If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello!
I was wondering if anyone could list somethings I should specifically watch out for when picking up my new Genesis. For example, specific electrical issue that I should test or part of the car I should check.

Thanks!

Check that bumpers and body panels meet cleanly
Check wheels to make sure there are no imperfections, dings, stickers on the alloy wheels
Look under indirect light for paint swirling, scratching, or bubbling
Open moonroof and make sure the protective tape has been removed from the pop-up wind deflector
Ask to make sure the tire pressure is set correctly--better yet, ask for a copy of the results of the dealer's customer delivery checklist
Ask for a list of the TSB's they have applied to the car (they're required to perform all applicable bulletins before delivery)
Check the trunk to make sure the trunk roof liner is present (you shouldn't be able to see the speakers on the roof of the trunk).
Check the power seats, telescoping steering column (especially full extension and retraction, since that's a TSB-fixed issue), and seat heating/cooling (if applicable to your model)
Make sure the XM trial subscription is activated: if you get only two satellite channels, it hasn't been
Make sure you get two keyfobs plus a numbered black tie (that should have been bundling the fobs--the code is important if you ever have to replace lost fobs)
Ensure you have a cargo net in the trunk--it may be under the floor with the spare
Ensure you have wheel lock keys if you opted for wheel locks
Check HVAC operation quickly to make sure your A/C and heater kick in
Check seating surfaces for tears or exposed seams or threads
EDIT: And a full set of owner's manuals

Just a few things off the top of my head.

I have only owned the car for a few months and honestly have not taken the time to figure out all the gizmos. So I am not help with specifics. There is a thread on here that list problems that owners have had. Personally I have not had any except the gas overflow when filling up.

I would recommend a detailed look at the exterior and interior. Not sure what color you are getting, but scratched show up better under fluorecent lights then in sunlight. Another silver car I purchased looked great on my walkaround. Got home went out in the garage to admire my new ride and noticed numerous scratches on the hood. Dealer said that I should of noted it before driving off. Take as long as you need, do not be in a rush and do not let them pressure you into speeding up. After all, if any discrepencies are noted, have them put in writing that they will fix it, and then sign the paperwork.

My thoughts are most stuff will be covered under warranty, but dings and scratches are on you.

Cheers....:welcome: to the club

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
most of the items will be covered under your warranty and you can spend more time to learn and make sure they are all working good in a later time. If not, send it for warranty repair.
When picking up a new car, I will focus on the cosmetic part of the car inside and out in GOOD DETAIL.

Past TSBs should be done prior to the car leaving the factory. Any new TSBs after the car being ex-factory should be done correctly before you picking her up.

Drive the car and making sure the alignment is good. I had 4 new cars in the last 8 years since we moved to the US and 2 of them have alignment issues. (same dealer but different make)

Enjoy and take some photos for us.

Thanks for helping out guys. I appreciate it.
I will indeed take some pics.. once all the tinting and what not is complete :D

Still waiting on the emblems from Ebay.

Mostly check for shipping damages and scratches, especially on the lower portions of the car where people are less likely to look. Bring a CD so you know the audio system works. Blue shipping tape everywhere, open the sunroof and peal it off the sunroof wind deflector, or else it will whistle, when it's open.
This is probably overkill, but I'd cherry pick from this list...
BMW CPO Preinspection Checklist.

Thanks for the replies. This is great info.

I will be picking up next week. I hope all the appropriate TSB were conducted already. I emailed my sales person. Hopefully he will get back soon. If not I will call.

Thanks again!

Make sure to remove the plastic tape from the back up camera. I was so upset about the lousy quality of the picture on the screen, until I lifted the trunk lid and noticed the tape over the lens.

Interesting, I was in the trunk yesterday and thought it was weird that the speakers were exposed. Is this something that should have been installed during dealer prep? Does anyone have a picture of what the trunk roof liner is supposed to look like so I can take it back to my dealer.

I have already seen my car. Checked the km prior buying. Mine had the cover in the trunk as well.
I think my pickup will be delayed till near the last week of this month. I felt like it made more sense to drive my lease until the time it is due.

:P

It was always included on the V8 model, but early V6's didn't have them, probably for cost savings. It sounds like they made a running change to include them in later built 2009 3.8's. Several have had success getting them installed at no charge.

Make sure all the chrome tape protection has been removed.

I washed and drove my car for almost a year before noticing the 1 piece the dealer left on just under the driver side mirror.

Thanks for the link. I should have done a forum search for "liner" before posting my question. After I did I found this thread which I think might be the most useful for getting my dealer to install a liner.

The conclusion was that the cover they speak of isn't a 'factory option' w/the V6 models (I have V6 Premium Plus pkg), but it is with the V8 models. There are other stories where some were able to negotiate it in the deal, or get Hyundai to send them one after the sale (I think I read that here...somewhere...). I bought the first Genny in my area about 1 1/2 years ago, and it didn't come w/the cover. When I approached the dealer after the sale, they advised me as above, and provided a price, should I desire to order one.

I haven't 'acquired' that desire as yet! Nor have I encountered any damage to the speakers themselves--and I carry stuff (tools and other stuff) in my trunk.

Dan

I have got to say that a trunk with the cover really does look more complete.

It is odd why hyundai won't just make everything uniform.
