  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I am a proud owner of a Hyundai Equus. I am from Dallas and drove my 2004 VW W12 Phaeton to Colorado for Christmas and drove the Equus back. It is a fantastic car - an amazing value.

The highs:
Super quiet - the Phaeton was touted as one of the quietest cars ever - the Equus is way quieter
Rides great - extremely smooth on the road
Adaptive Cruise Control - you basically don't event have to touch the gas/pedal with this on - truly impressive
Engine - for proper break-in I toggled between the 6th and 4th gear the whole way back from Colorado. You could barely notice the shift changes.
Snow - we left in a blizzard and the VSM system worked perfectly. I was worried we would not be able to get out of Colorado. My relatives live on a very steep hill (7% grade about) and there was about 2 inches of snow and the car went up the hill fine.
Looks great - pictures don't do the car justice. It is a great looking car. Everyone looks at it!

The ONLY low (and a big low and my ONLY area of buyers remorse):
Stereo - I was expecting amazing things out of the 608 Watt Lexicon stereo. I am an audio fanatic and it plays very, very, very flat. There is very little bass with any of the inputs. The music is not discretly rich at all. I have tried every permeantation of the controls and nothing seems to work. The subwoofer seems to only play extremely low frequencies. Please if anyone can help me here I am all ears.

How do we start an Equus forum?

First, congratulations on your new car!

Second, when you say that the subwoofer only plays extremely low frequencies, what do you mean? Subs are supposed to output around 200 Hz or lower.

Also, the sound system in the Equus should be no worse that the one in my Genesis. Although I'm not as much of an audiophile as I once was, I find that the sound in my car is pretty darn good. The quality is accentuated by the lack of road noise, which should be even lower in your car.

Firstly, congratulations on yourEquus. I am sure you will be very pleased. I own a black and saddle 4.6 Genesis and had anicipated the arrival of the Equus for almost 1 year. I did get a sneak preview of one in Houston, Tx (Hub on 290) over a year ago and was "smitten". However, the price point once annonced was substantially higher than I had hoped ($20K more than my Genesis). When I had the opportunity to seeone again recently at my dealership, the "wow' was not there. I think it is a beautiful car but owning my Genesis for 26 months, I don't see $20K difference. If you have not owned a Genesi and just bought an Equus I can see why you would be thrilled at the quality and the "deal". I think many actual owners of the Genesis would agree. I will wait 1 year and get a gently used Equus at a price that I feel should have been the price new. In the mean time I will get up everyday and continue to love driving my Genesis which I think was the real deal!! Again, Congratulations and keep us informed of your thoughts as you drive your EQUUS! Tom

Wow, a Phaeton and Equus owner! You sure have no reservations on going upscale from typical low scale manufactures! I hope the Equus keeps your enthusiasm. While VW is at the bottom of reliability scale, Hyundai has seen the basement and is now on the tops steps of the industry. Congrats!
