  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Took delivery of my Black on Black Genesis yesterday, Took two weeks for my dealer to find it.

4.6
Tech Package
Trunk Insert, alloy locks, ipod connector
Black exterior
Black interior with Brown leather insert.

I cross shopped the gs460 and M45. The Gen was better than the GS (my opinion) but the M45 felt a little fast. But, The M45 was 61,500 compared to 39,600. No contest.

I have been watching the Genesis for about 3 months now, am now ready to buy. I have been debating with the wife, she'd prefer an 07' GS430 or M45 over the Genesis. I have a friend that sells Infinity, he recommends buying a (M35/45) car that is 1 to 2 years old because the resale on the M is very bad -good for a buyer though.

Do you have any idea why the resale value of the M35/45 is bad?

I just took delivery of my Genesis 3.8 with tech a couple of weeks ago. I came out of a 36 month lease of a 2006 M35. I loved the M35 and if you can find a great deal on an 07 or 08 AND you like it better than the Genesis, then go for it. While I love my Genesis so far, the M35 is a great car. I'm glad I leased the M35 - if I had to trade it, I would have taken a pretty big hit. The lease residual was much higher than current market values. I think the same goes for most all cars that were leased a few years back. The car companies were too agressive with high residuals in order to drive down monthly payments to incent buyers - good for me and bad for them. They learned though, and when I was shopping this time around, residuals were much lower (but more realistic). I'm paying as much for my Genesis 27 month lease as I did for my M35, and the MSRP on the M35 was at least $5,000 higher then my 3.8 Genesis.

I spent yesterday afternoon test driving M35's and was quite impressed. Very comfortable (probably the most comfortable sports sedan I've driven to date), good power with the 303 hp 3.5, smooth 7 speed transmission, very nicely done interior (if a little busy looking at first glance), and great handling. Infiniti has done a masterful job in getting a 4000 lb. car to feel like a much smaller vehicle. The dealership was great (I have a friend who has traded there and raves about them). I was sold on the M35 when I left the dealer.

But then there was the price. With the Tech & Sport package it comes to about $51,600. You could probably get it for around $48,500. Still, I was seriously considering the M35 until I had time to research the resale values today. OMG, what a shock that was. I am seeing 2008 M35's w/low miles at $28K-$29K from the same dealer. And that is dealer asking price with some wiggle room there no doubt. Trade-in would be much lower still. While they probably don't have the Sport and Tech package it is still a big hit. Checking KBB confirms this. I would be easy to take a $20,000 hit the first year with an M35.

I know you take a much bigger hit on depreciation when moving into upscale/luxury segment but I guess I didn't realize how much it could be. $20,000 in one year? Ouch!

Infinity has historically put the majority of their development resources into their G and Q cars, the M has always been a "stop gap" vehicle to compete with the Lexus and BMW/Merc models within that segment. I've read that Infinity is trying to change this stigma with the M, probably starting with the 2009 model.

Even now, you will see that the G's have technology that is STILL not available in the M, even going back to 2006 G models.

My friend Chad drove a 2007 M35 for 1 1/2 years, he says the Nav system is crap, the car is too heavy for the 3.5L -go for the 4.5, other than that . . . He LOVED his car.

Another thing to check out if you're budget conscious, I love the Genesis but the Cadillac STS is a great bargain, the sticker for the loaded 2008 STS V8's is around $55K or better, they can be had now for around $27K -and I hear the markup is high so a better deal than that is possible. I am going to drive the STS tonight to see if I like it, I've researched it, it is absolutely loaded with some really cool technology.

An STS NEW? for 27k?

I looked at STS locally and they would move, but the "out the door price" was still over 50K.

the STS one or two years old, significantly cheaper than a new, they depreciate quickly. new STS' are still expensive.

Congrats on the new car!

Welcome aboard, Wally! Thank you for signing up!
