  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just picked up a new Genesis last week and new to the forum. It is cabernet red w/ cashmere int premium plus pkg. Really nice car and my first Hyundai of any kind. Traded in a 2007 Saturn Outlook. I also just got rid of a 2008 CTS DI and a Lincoln MKZ just for some backround.

So thought I would share a few driving impressions and observations:

Like:

- Nice paint... the Red color really sparkles in the sun

- Engine very quiet and more than enough power for a V6

- Handles nicely, better than expected

- Very nice interior and attention to detail

- Kind of a hybrid styling of all the luxury makes rolled into one but it works and has a nice presence

- Good size trunk

- Key FOB holder

dislikes / comments:

- No dead pedal or too far back

- Steering wheel controls could be a bit better

- why is the off switch for the heat / ac on the passenger side?

- Stereo perplexes me...maybe it's just me but the sound out of the front speakers and dash sound a bit tinny or too much mid-range and I can't get it right no matter what I do. Then sometimes it sounds awesome. I don't know...

- Gas pedal seems oddly placed i.e it is too long

- the manual shift is a bit clunky, especially compared to the Caddy

The suspension that receives so much attention on these boards actually works well. It seems like they couldn't decide on whether they wanted it to ride like a BMW or a Lexus and came out somewhere in the middle...a litle better damping control and it would be there. Not a show stopper for me.

BTW by comparison my CTS was leaps and bounds a better handling much more sporty car. I had the performance pkg and a lot of extras which brought the car to about $40k. You can option the Caddy out to over $50K but it's pure overkill IMO. Only reason I got rid of it was I had three cars and it was the most expensive.

Overall the Genesis a great car with an awesome warranty and a helpful dealership. Been following this car since it came out but never thought I would own one but glad I do!

Welcome aboard! And thank you for signing up! I really like the CTS and MKZ - nice luxury sports car that tend to be a bit more sporty than luxurious - but classy non the less. And now the Genesis - which is probably more luxurious than sporty. Congratulations on your new Hyundai Genesis!

Yama1yzf,

We have very similar cars! Mine is a premium Cabernet/Cashmere. I really prefer the 17" wheels to the 18" on the "plus" package. My car was nearly impossible for the dealer to find!

I noticed the same thing with the stereo, on CD and Ipod the sound is fantastic. However, on XM and FM the stereo really shows the poor quality of the source (its not the stereo itself). What is nice is that you can adjust the Bass/Treble/Mid and it remembers it for each source. That will help out quite a bit.

I have the Genesis for about 1 month. my big problem is with the suspension. Much too stiff. If they modify it on the 2010 and if at all possible, I'll retrofit mine. Front passenger seat seems a little low (Not the end of the world). However, the rear seats are only 19" deep as compared with 20" in front. Not good support for under the legs. Trunk leaks when the lid is opened and it's raining. Other than that, it's a classy car. I'm enjoying it. Lots of toys. Good Value. As good as the Lexus 300 series, Accura TL, Infiniti G and M series. In my opinion they should have instead of their "H" logo or the silly wings (600 bucks) that resembles a chrysler's, just used a simple "G" (like Lexus). If they intend to have a luxury division, Hyundai should not appear anywhere on the product.

Welcome aboard. I agree with the suspension not overly stiff, but could be tweeked. Is this not an adjustment that can be done at the dealer?

Thanks for the Welcomes...it is appreciated. No, the suspension cannot be tweaked at the dealer. And I would assume the reason Hyundai has not done anything about it is because it is not a "defect" but it is an engineering failure. nothing short of full replacement of the shocks and springs will cure the problem assuming Hyundai comes up with a modified suspension in '10. And I doubt they will offer a retrofit.

Hi Everyone,
I have had my Genesis for less than a week! I choose the White Pearl on black int premium plus pkg. I too have noticed that the trunk leaks when raining or just rained. Could get real annoying since I carry electronic equipment for my job. The trunk is my biggest disappointment in the vehicle considering it’s a luxury car. I wish when it was opened it would open all the way as it is I can barely get my finger under the lid. I hope that this can be tweaked or re-outfitted. I plan on doing a few changes on the car. My other half owns a tire dealership and wants to put different wheels and tires on. I almost want to go back to a 17” for a better ride. I plan on tinting and have the dealer looking for a rear spoiler does anyone have a suggestion? Thank you!

Yea, those are some of my pet peeves too. I'm hoping Hyundai really listens to its customers and makes some changes for 2010. Some somewhat minor changes could really move this car in to a whole new arena. My own items listed in importance to me are:

1. improved suspension
2. better seats - more lateral support
3. automated trunk which opens completely
4. water leak issue from trunk

Adventuress, JPW...

To clarify, are you saying your trunks leak? Or that water runs into the trunk when you open it?

If the former, your dealer or Hyundai should correct the defect. If the latter, I agree that it's an annoyance and should be addressed for 2010.

I was just about to ask you what was wrong with the CTS before I saw the end of your post.

The CTS seems like a slick sedan. You're right that options can make it a little over priced though. Also, I just don't know if I like the exterior enough. The rear end looks like a giant coffin stuck on the back. I love the interior though. I think I like the interior on the CTS better than the interior on the Genesis which is pretty nice in it's own right. The way they implemented the pop-up Nav looks great.

Anyway, I'm not sure if it's that much better than the Genesis to justify paying a bit more for it and then when I saw that you actually dumped one to get a Genesis I was wondering if there was something exceptionally bad about the CTS that I missed.
