  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Model Type
2G Genesis Sedan (2015-2016)
I have a 2016 Genesis, and when I went to the new dedicated Genesis website, there is an area where you put your vin number in.
Since "Genesis" doesn't consider previous owners a part of the new Genesis division, they won't let you register on their website.
I emailed them, and they basically told me "you don't have a G model so, you're basically a Hyundai", and will have to continue to use their website.
Seriously?
Try it for yourself.

A lot of people are going to be angry about this but as the Genesis brand evolves, it's not going to matter. More and more people are going to be buying Genesis branded products who've never even owned a Hyundai before.

Technically, neither of us own a Genesis branded product. We own a Hyundai branded product. Over the next 30 years there are going to be 100 times the amount of Genesis branded product owners than Hyundai Genesis owners. So we can really do all the complaining we want - it's just not going to matter.

Lexus owners are separate from Toyota owners as well...

I choose NOT to complain about the fact that I knowingly bought a Hyundai which, unsurprisingly, is still a Hyundai. It's not a popular choice, because people sure do love to complain. But Hyundai didn't promise me anything more than they delivered - which is a Hyundai that happens to be an excellent luxury sedan of unsurpassed value. My next car may well be a Genesis - I am particularly keen to see how the G70 shakes out - but until then I won't be one of the people constantly crying about not being part of a club that I didn't buy into. And until then I will continue being exceedingly happy driving my Hyundai.

You bought a Hyundai, not a Genesis.

Lexus didn't provide Toyota owners benefits when they launched Lexus..
Cadillac didn't provide GMC Yukon owners benefits when it launched the Escalade..

I don't see why the sour grapes. There is always a cutoff when companies create a new brand and part of that is distancing the upmarket brand from the parent brand.

Not that I feel Hyundai Genesis owners should get all of the Genesis Motors perks - but your examples are totally off the mark. Neither Lexus nor Cadillac merely slapped a new badge on an identical Toyota or GMC model... Try again...

Exactly correct.

Are we having the SAME ****ing discussion with the SAME exact arguments posted by the SAME people AGAIN?

Actually the Escalade was a GMC Yukon Denali
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cadillac_Escalade
"The 1999 Escalade was identical to the 1999 GMC Yukon Denali, but was redesigned for the 2002 model year to make its appearance fall more in line with Cadillac's "art and science" design theme."

I stand corrected on the Escalade (I did not remember the original model) - it appears Cadillac was as lazy as Hyundai on that one. That was not the case with Lexus though as they did more than just rebadge to separate the new brand.

Lexus did it too. The es250 was just a rebadged Camry with a new front clip and slightly different window frames with shinier wheels. The LS 400 on the other hand was a unique upscale platform (like the G90?)

It could be worse. It could the v6 versus v8 thing again and usually reworded in some manner to make it more palatable and always lures the same people in. :D

But the ES 250 was not identical to the Camry - there were differences in both the exterior and the interior. My point is that the 2016 Hyundai Genesis and the 2017 Genesis G80 are physically identical, both inside and our, except for the badging!

Matters not one hoot to me. I bought a Hyundai Genesis therefore I own and drive a Genesis. Anyone who asks me "what kind of car is that?". They get a one word answer. Genesis.
End of discussion.

I tell people that ask me that it's a Hyundai - they can read that it is a Genesis so they are usually just curious as to who makes it...

It's easy enough to ignore the thread if it disturbs you that much.

Thanks!!! Exactly my feelings.

Stop whining people.

Exactly. There truly is no comparison to how Hyundai is launching the Genesis brand with what others have done. They effectively launched in baby steps with the Hyundai Genesis/Equus being the crawling phase. Although we did buy a Hyundai (no one is arguing that), we bought the models that Hyundai itself distinguished as a sub-brand. You cannot deny that.

As for those that characterize those of us who point this out as whining, we're merely pointing out our perspective. You're free to view this any way you want as are we.

With the Escalade and ES250 (and basically all the other examples), neither GMC nor Toyota dropped the model upon which the re-badged vehicles were based. On top of that, with the ES250, they did much more to distinguish it from the source Camry than Hyundai is doing with the G80. If Hyundai kept the Hyundai Genesis and also had the Genesis G80 (based on the Hyundai Genesis), then we'd have a valid comparison to what others have done. On top of that, we'd have no basis to claim Hyundai is mis-handling this. But that's not what's happening.
