  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I am in the process of buying a 2015 5.0 sedan that the dealer says has an out-of-true front wheel. The replacement wheel world seems rife with scammy-looking websites, the used ones I've seen look pretty scruffy, and I'm nervous about refinished ones holding up and matching the other three over time. Hyundai quoted me a little over $1k for a single new replacement, which is getting into the territory of a new set of decent aftermarket wheels, so I've been looking at those, too.

I notice tire rack and discount tire list a lot of different rim widths and offsets and while I trust they'd all fit without rubbing and accommodate factory tire widths, I'd really like to maintain the factory geometry and not exceed the factory weight, either.

...and I've found seemingly conflicting specs at various places, which brings me here!

I bought my set on eBay for less than $600 years ago.... might try there

Yeah, it seemed like a sea of refurbished wheels and scuffed up takeoffs. Just hesitant on the refurbs.

Just chatted with a Tire rack rep, who says 8.5/+40(F) 9.0/+49(R) factory width/offset. Those offset numbers seem to be at the far, far end (or beyond) the range of aftermarket offerings, which kind if gives me this "are you sure?" pause...

And I've seen both 8 and 8.5 and 9 and 9.5 claimed widths for those factory wheels at various places.

Still no idea on what the factory wheel weight is, but that's a little less concerning as I can at least strive for lightness in whatever I'm shopping. I kind of doubt that factory wheels are especially light.

This is what I could find:

Thanks! That looks like a match for tire rack's specs. I have found a few aftermarket wheels in the 8.5/+40 category, but nothing as extreme as +49 and a lot of the "fits your car" options online are more like +25-30. Seems like that would make some difference in the whole lever/fulcrum nature of the wheel and suspension points.

Ya go with ebay. The newer g80 sport wheels have the same specs while giving the car a more aggressive look! The front calipers are huge on our cars thus the weird offset. I played it safe and went with sport model ones to make sure they would clear the calipers. Btw the stock weight with tires is around 60lbs!

Ooh, that is a better looking wheel! Pretty close even to the TSW Sebrings that were looking like one of the closer offset matches. This is a fairly big car and a lot of the thin, especially five spoke wheels look kind of goofy on it. I feel like these multispoke styles look the best, anyway.

I really like Rotiform RSEs, but they only seem to come in 8.5 width and at a shallower offset.

Ya I spent weeks trying to find a good pair of aftermarket wheels. These came up on here for a really really good deal. Here's a set of blacked out ones LINK. I have more of a gun metal look.

Yeah, I saw those and that's a decent price, too, but I'm thinking the black would look too funky against the (Montecito blue) car. There are some singles out there in the other color, but that's gonna push it out around $2k.

@5.0KDM did your center caps transfer over from old to new or do I need to hunt down the 2018+ version of same?
They came with the set of rims i bought. I dont know if they will transfer over. My old ones were flush with the rim. The new ones have a center race knock off lug look to them if that makes sense. I wonder what the weight is on those.

Hmm... Guess I'll have to do some poking around. Saw lots of sets of center caps being sold for the newer wheels on eBay that just looked like little plastic buttons. I think I'm gonna go ahead and order these rims, though -- with a full set, they only have to match each other and they'll be blemish free to start with.

Thanks a bunch for pointing out that newer style for me!

Will do! It's been like pulling teeth getting this dealer to move things along. Haven't even booked a shipper yet.

o man well while you wait read up on some stuff here. I suggest getting new pads the oem pads leave deposits which cause the car to feel like it has wrapped rotors. Take a look at the trunk harness fix as well itll save you thousands of dollars by removing a bracket and help prevent your harness from fraying!

Yeah, that's the kind of stuff I came here for. At 22k miles, this car is probably still new enough to make some preemptive mods/generally catch things before they mushroom.

DAM thats brand new! Hopfully the previous owners drove it once in a while. i would get a oil catch can, mine catches alot of crap that wouldve made it back into the engine. Itll protect your valves from gunking up too!

Yeah, I was trying to find the oldest, lowest miles one of these I could afford. Hoping I can hang onto it a long time.

I've seen some talk of catch cans -- might look into that.

I wonder if decoupling the harness from the trunk arm would prevent breakage or whether it'd end up getting guillotined by something in there if it was just riding loose.

But I'm excited. I wanted a large-ish RWD sedan (well, I really wanted a wagon, but...) with a NA V8 and no CVT. This seemed like a better buy than $25k worth of Chrysler/German stuff and, while I thought about LS460s, it was a lot older design. Crossing fingers this works out well -- I bought one out of state without ever driving one locally.
