  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey guys,

New here and contemplating a Genesis for my next car. My younger brother had an 09 that he bought with around 40K miles on it, sold somewhere around 150K with pretty much only routine maintenance. His was a base 3.8, but was really nice.

Currently my daily driver is a 03 Saab with only 98k miles on it, I really like the car, but it is 15 years old. I used to have a 2000 S500 and do miss the V8 power on the freeway and ease of passing.

I'm not set on teh V6 or V8 yet, but the car guy in me is thinking V8. Are there any common issues to look for on the V8? Is the car a vehicle that is DIY friendly? Or does it need to go to the shop for everything. That is one thing I really like about my Saab and my S500, a huge online community to help you fix it. I've had some other cars where the community online bascially just told you to take it to the dealer.

Looking for any feedback. Thanks in advance.

Matt

You came to the right place for information. The 3.8 is very adequate and has decent power. That said, you just can't beat a good V8 and Genesis had a good one. At least test drive the 3.8 before you finalize your dream.

There are guys here that DIY that can give you some input. As I got older, I found it easier to write a check than pull wrenches.

There is a lot of technology that you don't have in your older car too. Very handy to have.

Thanks Ed. My younger brother's V6 definitely wasn't any slouch.

I hear ya about getting a little older and writing a check, but I've had too many times that the mecahnic didn't fix it right and the car was back in for the same problem a couple of days later. So if I can, I generally will do teh work.

The technology is definitely something that would be nice, although not a necessity. I will be keeping my eye out and maybe go drive one or two.

Thanks,

Matt
