  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just got a letter in the mail concerning the Pano Sunroof in my car - It's now guaranteed for at least 100k miles - guess the complaints finally got through to them. I'll post a copy of the letter when I can scan it. oh yeah!

Not quite. That is the proposed settlement. It has to be agreed to by both parties and the judge. Could take a week, could take a few years to settle. You can opt out if you think you can get a better deal on your own.

How does one go about getting a better deal on their own?

First you opt out of the class action suit. You can ask them, you can sue them. If that does not work, you hire a lawyer to handle the case for you.

Hope this process will eventually be applied in Canada also.

Not sure sure if there is any pressure for Hyundai Canada to provide any such warranty extension.

I'm leasing a '15 Ultimate and received this notice as well. The lease is expiring and I'm considering going to a G70. One of the options in the Settlement is a $1,000 rebate if you want to trade in your car because you've "lost confidence" in the pano roof ("trade" includes leases in this case) for another Hyundai vehicle. Per the notice, if you choose this option and get another Hyundai/Genesis you just submit a claim and get a $1,000 rebate....but your new car cannot have a pano roof (since you're
"afraid" of them now!). The G70 roof is described as a "wide sunroof" which appears to qualify for the rebate. If you buy a brand other than Hyundai, you can submit a claim for $600 as long as the new car doesn't have a panoramic roof.

This all has to be done by July 25, 2019 so the settlement must be a done deal at this point. Interesting options!

If your not covered under a 120k warranty, you now have it...which is great as opposed to paying for the repair (heck...who knows how many $kkkk that would be). I suppose the $200 could be put to a rental while the dealer has your car for 2-3 weeks.

Not sure how many are shattering. I've already had my 'rails' replaced which took about 4 days. You can tell the top is not engineered to retract smoothly. It torques and creates quite a bit of pressure on itself as it gets to the full-open position.

What are the indicators that the rails need attention? Other then the obvious shattering.

It jammed 2/3 open and would not close.

If you watch and listen closely, you can start to hear the motor straining and the movement gets noisier as its opening.

This is good news for someone like me who is considering buying a 2016 Genesis. I had fears about the sunroof issue but this more or less allays those...

Good to know.

I bought an extended warranty on my 2010 for the 1st time in my life. I bought the extended warranty for my 2016 specifically for the panoramic roof! I'll be paying close attention to the noise emanating from the roof from now on. At the dealership now waiting for my rear window to be fixed, I'm still under factory warranty for quite awhile, but I'm glad I sprung for the extended coverage again!

Stopped at my local dealer on Saturday to grab an oil filter and wipers and I told the service advise that my roof that they worked on last year has a really bad rattle when open and it fails to close using the 1 touch button about 60% of the time. He said lets go for a ride and got in. The pano was making all kinds of noise and he pressed up on the glass while I was driving and said that the glass is loose as it stops when he presses on it but they can only tighten 6 bolts and if that didn't help it's just how it's designed. When we got back to the dealer and went to close the roof like usual two thirds closed and it shutters and reverses. Dropped the car off a few days later and they wouldn't give me a loaner since this was a 1 hour job and they could do nothing else per the service advisor. I left the car with them for the day and picked it up after work when of course the service guys were gone. Looked at the paperwork and not one mention of the test drive, the rattle or the closing issue. Just says "customer states rattling noise when open. tightened bolts no noise found" but when they called to say the car was ready he told me that since it rained earlier they did not test drive it even though it was no longer raining. I find it odd that he told me they didn't test drive it due to the weather but the service bill says they did. Either way I opened the roof and drove home and the first bump out of the dealer caused it to rattle! I pulled into my garage and hit the close button and nope still only closes part way and stops.

Called the dealer today and asked why the service record doesn't state that he himself went on a test drive and heard and saw the issues. His response was that was on the weekend so since it wasn't the day I dropped it off he won’t note my file. I then asked why they lied on the work order by stating that they test drove it after the repair attempt when again he told me directly that they didn't test drive it after the repair. He responded that if that's what it says then someone test drove it. I said if someone did test drive it then again how could they not hear it since I heard it immediately upon pulling out of the lot and not to mention it still won't close so I don't think anyone even touched it. His response was that they have no intention of pulling it apart only to have it start making noise when closed as it did before the 1st repair last year which would make me unhappy. He says that all glass panoramic roof's will rattle when open and that's just the glass being loose and is normal in all cars. And they won't even address the fact that it won't close without being forced.

So once again I had to open a case with Hyundai USA to force a dealer to repair my car under warranty. I understand not wanting to tear apart this roof again as this is a pain in the ass and if it was a minor issue I would just deal with it but it's getting worse and the fact that it's not closing properly indicates another issue. What will happen if I can't close it at all one day sitting in my hour long commute and it starts raining? Are they going to cover the water damage? What if this POS shatters while I'm driving with my kids and they get glass shards in their eyes? I should have known what the outcome was going to be when I dropped off they car and he asked if I bought the car from them. I explained this to them before and even spoken to the sales manager before that I tried buying my last two Hyundai’s from them and even had a check in hand from Hyundai for the Dealer Buy Back from my Sonata and when I went in to buy a Genesis they day they took the Sonata and gave me my check they told me that the Genesis that I already spoken to the sales rep and took for multiple test drives was on hold for a potential buyer later that week. Call me crazy but if I was a car salesman and a person is sitting in front of me with no current car and cash is hand I would sell them the car. Now it's a waiting game to hear back from Hyundai.

Any info as to whether sunroof repair was extended to newer vehicles? Sunroof in my 2018 G80 sport will not close without two people working it closed manually. Extreme rust on two rear assembly pieces. My car is 3+ years old and about 39,000 miles. Dealer ordered new sunroof and insinuates it will be covered by warranty but I'd hate to find out the hard way that it isn't covered.

Should be covered under the 5/60 warranty.

That letter says nothing about mechanical repairs - it's for glass shattering only.

Thanks folks. Dealer now changed his story and says there is a kit from the manufacturer to repair my 2018 G80 Sport's sunroof that won't close: 2 rear pieces are severely rusted and mine makes for the 2nd one he has seen recently with this problem. Not sure what year the other customer's vehicle is. No ETA for repair/replacement parts.
