New member that needs input please

Any input would greatly be appreciated. I'm on the fence. Get a '18 G80 5.0 for @$31,00 w/ 12k mi or a new '19 ultimate 3.8 they are advertising $39,999 I think maybe I can get them closer $35,000 because they have 3 with less than 20 mi that have been there for over 260 days.

Also, I know the V8 has more power but, how does it handling with the extra weight and will the mileage really that much worse then the V6? This will be my daily driver to replace my Chevy Volt on my 20mi round trip to work.

So, what's your thoughts. Thanks for any input.

A lot depends on what kind of driver you are; the 5.0 is going to give you a bit more zip and go but will cost you on mileage. I have a G80 3.8 RWD Ultimate lwhich has plenty of getup and go for me and it is the Ultimate that sells it for me. The extras include some fine adds that make it the car for me. Just to be fair, you can compare me to the others on the forum: my signature, Don88 includes my age and set my speed per the signs. Below are the goodies for the Ultimate.

Tough call. From everything I've seen here, fuel mileage is pretty good on the 5.0 so not a consideration. That engine also added about 5k to the original price.

For me it comes down to new versus used. The used is a very good value but you don't get the full warranty. The Ultimate is nice and has adequate performance for an every day driver. How important is brand new to you?

New is not a big deal. I'm just wanted an Ultimate V6 or V8. I drove a V6 2017 and it has good power and I know V8 would be faster, I'm just curious about about what present owners think.

Hey guys, a related question. I was surprised the OP didn't mention the 3.3T Sport, which is the next step to the base. Anyway, here's my question: What's the difference between a 3.8 Ultimate and a 3.3T Sport, which supposedly includes the ultimate package, just like the V8? Just curious. Because I couldn't find any details. I think the Lexicon stereo has more speakers on the 3.3, no? And only the 3.3T has adjustable shocks, correct? What about other details, like the steering wheel? The Sport is much nicer than the 5.0 ultimate IMO, so which one does the 3.8U have? How about wheels and tires difference? Any other such differences? Thx.

I didn't want another turbo ( I have a turbo Solstice) and the adaptive suspension. Just more stuff to worry about. Ultimate has led fog lights and upgraded leather and open pore wood trim.

I always liked how the 3.8 was designed for regular fuel. There's no doubt the new G80 will use premium across the entire engine lineup.

Because the new 2.5T/3.5TT engines are all turbocharged and made as successors to the 2.0T and 3.3TT options already found in the G70- which require premium. It's the same in the German brands and Lexus with their turbo engines.

Technically the manuals say that anything above 87 octane is recommended and not required, but the engines are designed for optimum performance and fuel economy with premium fuel.

Update:. I couldn't get either of them to move on the price so, I went with a Brown / beige interior( once I waxed it the color really pops) '18 G80 V8 5.0 on Carvana for $31.9k

2 hours before delivery on 4/25 I get a call from Carvana the rear driver side window had a crack. The window would not be there to Friday. Just before that got a call saying I'm Covid 19 positive and I have to spend another week in quarantine! I wasn't having a great day. So, I told them to keep the car till the window was fixed, plus I would be done with quarantine at home.

Anyway got the car on the 3rd and I really like it. I washed and waxed it now I looks amazing. When I washed it I found the wheels were peeling. I contacted Carvana and they going to fix them. I called the local Hyundai dealership to check for any recalls and about warranty. They said I have 35 months left on my warranty and an ECU update.

So, far I feel I made a good choice. With only street driving I'm getting about 18mpg with the 5.0 V8. Not as good as my Volt that it replaced but, good enough.

Putting regular in them is not recommended, but can be done. Just don't complain when you get less performance, lesser fuel economy, and your engine wears out faster.

The fuel economy and performance figures of the turbo engines are based on premium fuel. The engines were designed for premium fuel. The case is closed.

If you have a car that was designed for premium while you put in regular, I'm sorry you don't feel your lifestyle is validated.
