If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey guys. Newbee here. Just registered. Odly enough I've just testdrove the Genesis 2 weekes ago and I am planning to go to the Infiniti dealer tomorrow. Testdrive went well only thing was a little concern when we hit the snow. But can't really complain with RWD car in the snow won't be perfect.

Anybody with experience in the snow climbing uphill? Mabe should ask it in another post.

Genesis felt really good with the testdrive. Well ballanced car with planty of toys. There is not much to negotiate from the price.

I've got some numbers thru Infiniti and right now they are disconting the G35xs with all the options include navi and everything for 32k. Seems to be even biggere bargain than Genesis. Now I can't say nothing till I testdrive one so we shall see. I am planning to drive the M45x and the G35Xs.

Really good forum you guys have here BTW.

Cheers

Welcome aboard! Thank you for signing up. I moved your post into it's own discussion so that it gets the attention it deserves. :)

Thanks. Awesome forum.

If you plan to drive a RWD car in the snow with 17 or 18 inch summer/all wheel tires you are risking your life. Get winter tires on that car or get another car for the snowy weather!

Infiniti does have great lease deals on their remaining 2008's as well as BMW! Good luck in your search!

WELCOME to the forum!

Or, add the 150 lbs. of sand/salt to the trunk, and learn how to use the Shiftronic!

True, but with a $40K car I think $1K from tire rack makes sense :) Winter tires really make most RWD cars shine in the snow. I guess I am just risk averse.

Anyway, welcome to the forum and hope you are happy with your final decision. Let us know what you decide on and why of course!

I agree with Drew...snow tires are a necessity for a RWD car if you'll encounter winter driving conditions with any regularity. I've put ~3,000 miles on my Genesis since I installed Bridgestone Blizzaks in November, and I'll take 'er out in any weather with confidence. While I miss the standard transmission of my previous cars, the Genesis has good weight distribution (varies by model) and a very active ESC chip.

As far as going uphill from a dead stop, that shouldn't be a problem, either. One option is to use the pseudo-manual feature of the automatic transmission to start off in 2nd gear, but even that isn't necessary except for extreme conditions.

Whether you select an Infiniti, Genesis or something else will be based on numerous factors, but don't let concerns about RWD in the winter be among them.

Yes I know. It would be my first thing to buy a set of winter on 17". Since smaller is better to cut through the snow and bite. The car I tested had all seasons on. That's why I asked if nybody had any insight with snow driving.

I had an s2k in 01-02 and I was driving it all year(2 winters). Till an 85 years old lady decided to ignore a stop sign and nail me on the side. So I think I have a good idea how to drive in winter. Right now I am driving a Saab 9-5 but got the itch for a new ride. Saw the commercial for the Genesis and thought why not. I like bargain shopping and could not care about brand names. Otherwise I would be in a 335. I just don't feel like paying that much.

I hope Hyundai will come out something smaller too in 4 door. Maybe couple of other options to get more costumers. Like awd system probably something like RWD biased system only use awd when needed. There is planty on the road now.

Cheers

Funny thing is all season tires are really 3 season tires excluding winter. Good luck and drive safe in the snow!

Do not get all seasons for this car... Strictly winter. Night and day difference between what is on there and the winters... My car now rocks in the snow! No weight in the trunk either. Up hills from a dead stop, none issue! I purchased the Hankook winters... Decent. They are luxury winter for a quiet ride.

Welcome....

And yes, you'll need winter tires to justify driving a RWD in the snow. On top of that the G35X is not a "true" AWD vehicle but great nonetheless. Now that the G37 sedan is coming, they have to get rid of the G35's. But I'd take the Genesis... not bias. I don't own one yet but I've driven both. :)

Ok I had a blast testdriving the G35XS and M45X. Both cars are awesome in the snow with all season tires. Not a spin. We had 4-5 inch of snow today and the roads were messy. Both cars handled extremely well. Stop and go and turn like dry roads.

M45 is more of a closer size to the Genesis. To my taste they are a little too big. Nothing against any of them. It is personal preference.

G35XS with all the goodies comes just above 32k. They are willing to give me free tint and 2 years of free oilchanges. Tempting needless to say. It is so much fun to drive. It feels like it pulls on snowy road like dry roads. Not even a little hesitation or slip. I was very impressed.

About the AWD. Yes they are smart all wheel drive which gives you best of both world. Gives you the RWD performance and the feel and it kicks in when you needed. Smart AWD is the future. Better gas milage too than the Constant AWD.

I think I'll go with the G35XS but I have to think about it. Too bad Genesis does not have a smaller version of it(Sedan). Hope they'll come out in few years with more options. Also there isn't much to negotiate from the price. Infiniti droped 8k from the price just to clear the lot to make room for the 09. To me the 09 not a big different from the 08. They have a bigger engine and 7 speed tranny also adjustable heated seats. Not just high and low temperature. And the selfhealing clear coat. Which I think a cool feature but I can leave without it.

Thanks for the insight guys. As I said before this is a great site with a good amount of info and bunch of great members.

Best to all of you and to Hyundai. Good to see Hyundai getting better and better.

Cheers

I just wanted to share one of my winter tricks. I've only driven FWD one time in winter, the rest of my driving has been RWD. I went to college right outside Albany, NY, and we consistently had snow on the ground. Someone mentioned salt, a few pages back... but I've seen people have bags of salt break open in their trunk... and that just stinks. I used to use 2 of these, from Lowes.

I'd put them in my trunk for the added weight(they were ~ 80 LBs each). However, they come in REALLY handy when you're stuck in the snow. Open up the package, grab 2 or 3 sheets, fold them in half, and jam them under the rear tires. Pretty much INSTANT traction to get you over that ice patch or out of that snow bank. It's saved me so much time and energy, I can't even begin to say how happy I am that I thought of the idea:)

Just hoping to share a little bit of my own winter experience in RWD:)

Yea with my S2k I had 2 bags of sand in an aditional plastic bag. I had to use it sometimes I just opened it and put some under the tires. It works awesome. I like your idea also. You can just pick it up and go again. LOL

But really with a good set of winter tires RWD cars are good. Some of the FWD cars are bad too in winter. Some have a really bad weight distribution between front and back. Same idea apply for those also. 2 bags of sand.

Glad to se people are smart enough to use almost everything.

Cheers

Re: New Member/New Owner

Hi there! Just found the site. Bought a 4.6 w/ tech package last week (Titanium out/black in), and so far, so good. Love it! Live it Fort lauderdale (suburbs). Saw the thread for the emblems. Anyone have any horror stories, or at least a good vender to use?

Thanks!

Hello as well to all members,
Just purchased a Genesis 4.6 Platimun w/ Tech
Black Interior and Wing badge on tail
Have had it for a couple days. Ride real nice and confortable. For the money you cannot go wrong.
I do have a couple questions for the membership, since I am new to the Genesis.

Is the blue tint in the instrument panel muted.?..does not appear as "bright" on the literature brochure and the Hyundai website...mine has just a tinge of blue...mostly white on black

Also, when coming to a stop, taking my foot of the gas......it coasts and then i feel a little pull back.....

Lastly, my wife and I were driving, and put her seat warmer on...the 3 small lights lit.....but then started to flash off and on....and set did not get warm.

Any comments would be appreciated....
