  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

New models of Hyundai seem as good or better than Genesis

Interior of the G70 was never that great to begin with, infotainment system was basic and not ahead of what was coming, which is why it's in need of an overall, but people buy the G70 for performance, not inside stuff, so no biggie IMO.

Look at the 2020 Hyundai Sonata, fully loaded is better inside than the G80, won't get a 3.3T that's for sure and is FWD, but still, it's great inside. same with the 2021 Kia Optima.

Having sat in the new cars, I wouldn’t say they’re “better” than the Genesis counterparts inside. They have a less luxurious feel, particularly around the rear seating, while the technology seems newer it’s more like a test bed. Bose anything is a serious audio faux pas and the systems sound like wet paper on a wire. If you think the Genesis lacks bass, the Sonata can’t get rid of it. I like the gauge clusters though, I just want more...

The overall chassis feels like a lighter vehicle, not that it’s a bad thing, but not what I’m looking for in a luxury sedan for touring. Particularly crappy road surfaces filter through the isolation with higher frequency, while not obnoxious it’s definitely not got the heavy absorption advantage.

I’ll respond further if any Azera/Grandeur ever becomes available again here in the USA.

Also they are front wheel drive. Love the rear wheel drive.

Not uncommon. Toyota and Nissan do the same thing, The newer technologies get rolled out in their mass production vehicles because it is more cost effective, then they roll up to the higher end vehicles a year or 2 later.

look at the new corolla and it’s technology compared to any Lexus.

luxury vehicles get much better materials and designs, cookie cutter cars get used to beta test new technologies so that when they hit the higher end cars most of the bugs are worked out.

Naturally each generation has a distinct boom in difference of quality and features etc. The new Sonata marked that next leap, so naturally it will feel similar if not slightly better. Hyundai and Kia have raised the bar to class-leading heights this year. Expect the newest Genesis family to be staggering as they have been built from the ground up too; new G80, GV80 etc.

Don't new technologies make their debut in top model luxury cars? They make their way down to regular cars as the costs come down. Things that are common today like ABS, adaptive cruise, traction control are sold first on cars like the S Class.

Tech moves a lot faster today though... I didn't think things like LKAS would make it down to mid range Hyundais in only a couple of years and they're much improved in such a short period of time as well. The LKAS in the Genesis wasn't that great but now the latest iteration in the Palisade/Telluride less than 5 years later are the best in the industry.

While it may be true that in the older Genesis cars the LKAS system left something to be desired (my Genesis Ultimate was the first year for the implementation of it) you wouldn’t know from the operation of my G70. It does an excellent job of keeping the car centered in lane even around minor curves. They’ve improved it considerably.

The sonata better than the G80 inside? Come on man.

I second the LKAS system in the G70. When on high sensitivity, it will easily negotiate minor curves hands off. My wife just gives me one of those looks as she watches me grin, put your damn hands back on the wheel.....and I do.

I thought the same too, but now that I've gone car shopping a bit more, it seems that really is variable depending on the brand. It seems that the luxury German manufacturers do it that way, while others don't.

for example what is the difference in a 2020 Palisade and the upcoming GV80 interiors .

Or the 2020 Sonata's Smart Parking Assist . Its not even in the 2020 Genesis G90 . Why ?
Why is there no digital keys on the Genesis . Is it not the top of the line luxary brand for Hyundai.

Yeah, I look for parking places that are so small I won't be able to open my doors.

Yha .. so my original question on the thread was

If the best Hyundai model are better (better technologically and feature equipped) than genesis line of cars ... what has genesis line of cars to offer ?

How will they build the genesis brand , if the interiors look exactly the same .

Yeah, I look for parking places that are so small I won't be able to open my doors.
Don't laugh, I did that once. I was driving a beater and did not care about a ding. Crowded parking garage, one close spot but tight. Yeah, I can get in there. I did, but could not get out of the car. I felt kind of foolish as I pulled out.

I have been in those crowded "compact" parking's and with Genesis dimensions it a tight fit . And then while you're IN that Walmart , you are always worried if the person parked next to your car will bang open their door on yours and scratch it .

Atleast in California .... i've never seen the courtesy to write a sorry note / leave your phone number if you scratch someone's car. People just drive off.

Would only make sense we will see the same sort of ability and features show up in Genesis too....at some point. Otherwise the Genesis brand is going backwards and calling it their flagship luxury division will be a joke. The new features to squeeze into a tight parking spot or a digital key do nothing for me for I don’t park in tight spots. Someone parks so close to me I can’t get in or they ding my car, they will know the error of their ways when they get to their car.

You park near Walmarts? When I'm driving my G70, I park literally as far back as possible. So far back that I spend almost as much time walking to/from the car as I do shopping on some trips! :hillarious:

I agree it will eventually show up but there is more to a luxury car than technological gadgets. Is the Sonata as good or better? Are the seats a comfortable and adjustable? Mats of the same quality? Screen size and options? Sound system? Features like Auto Hold? Quiet and smooth ride?
Sonata is a great car for the money. I had three of them before my first Genesis but using my phone for the key is not going to be the decision maker for my next car. We all have different things that turn us on or off and different values but I don't think Genesis will be second rate by comparison.
