  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Yesterday, August 9, 2010 my dealer installed the new (03.00.00 2010.04.30.10) Navigation Software in my 2009 Genesis (BH). I was his first installation and it took a lot longer than either of us had realized. After 4 disks and 4.9 hours of labor, it was up and running. I believe this edition covers more than we previously had. In addition to the 40 US States, we now have Hawaii and Alaska, as well as all of Canada. I haven’t yet begun to explore POI’s and other features. Essentially, the guidance feature remains the same.
This new map isn’t free, but not that expensive either. The dealer charged me 1.5 hours service labor to do the upgrade, and considering the time spent, that’s more than reasonable. Contact your dealer of choice to arrange installation.
As soon as they finish the construction of the Obama Causeway, the wife and I are off to Hawaii to explore that map.
:D

Whoa! Obama Causeway? Don't tell me- it's a tax- I mean tollway that cost you an arm & a leg to drive on and you wish you never went down that road but now you are paying the price- dearly?

OK- back to the post- what was the final bill? Wondering if you can by the 4 discs and we all pay a cost and pass them around!

I thought there were 57 states? LOL.

4 discs? It was our understanding that the update was 3 discs. Is this anything like the "40" US States?

Did everything else work ok once you got the update. AM/FM?XM presets?
What about your "Traffic" icon and the "Nav Traffic Green/Yellow/Red lines (if available in your area)? In other words, did you lose anything with the DIS Navi Map update?

What is wrong with you guys...everyone knows there are 52 states!!!

The pass around concept on the discs intrigues me....how would that work??

It wouldn't. The installation requires a "map authorization code" that's unique to the nav unit's hardware ID. The dealer gets that unique code via a service website or over the phone. This is per the 10-BE-004 TSB that instructs dealers on how to upgrade the nav software. Sorry :(

Life is certainly filled with its little disappointments!!

Now to answer a few questions about the new Navigation Software I had installed this week. “STREETS” in Post #2 asked the cost…. $168.00, which turned out to be 1.5 hours of labor here in Colorado. I can’t say what your dealer will charge you. It might be wise to ask him ahead of time. Also, they don’t provide the disks; they perform the service of installing the program.

In Post #4, ctrcbob asked if other items were changed in the course of the installation. I have noted that the phone history and dialing list was erased, but my phone was still paired, so no big deal to me. Also, I did note all radio (AM/FM/XM) presets were cleared, again no biggy to me, but armed with that info, you can take notes before having the upgrade done so you can easily re-enter your favorites. When I renewed my subscription to XM radio, I didn’t elect to keep the Traffic option, so I can’t answer that question. I would doubt that the new software would cause any change to this as it is a subscription feature as is the XM programming itself, and I encountered no changes with that.

There seems to be a question as to 3 verses 4 disks in the upgrade. I was told by my dealer that there were 4. The first took 80 minutes to load, as did the second. I believe he said the third took 1 hour and the 4th took 15 minutes. As I wasn’t allowed to assist in the installation, I can’t attest to any of this, but so what? The main thing is knowing that this can’t be done in 30 minutes; you can plan to either camp out and wait, or drop your car off and pick it up at the end of the day.

Finally, the issue about how many contiguous states are there here in the U.S.? Well that depends on who’s counting. I’ve been in all of them but I choose not to recognize a few, therefore I count 40. Some of you were able to count into the fifties, and that is wonderful. Also, you must realize I find it very difficult to admit that I am human, and as such, I make mistakes.

In closing, I have used the map a little more this week and am pleased to see the map detail has improved, the POI’s are numerous and as up to date as one can expect in these changing times. Overall, I would say it has improved and I am satisfied with the price I paid for the upgrade.

As more of you get the upgrade, how about posting your feedback as I’m sure you will see things I haven’t.

Regards, Pothole

I'm trying to determine the Map version in my 2010 Genesis. When I do Setup/ System info it says for the Map version 2.08.14. Can anyone enlighten me on that vintage?

According to the map software company, the latest version in not 4.30.2010. It begins with 9. for September.

Waiting for a new head unit that will contain the latest version for my 2011 V8.

Have a 2011 4.6 and it came with the 4. 30. ver. Works great.

I tried to get my NOV09 build NAV software upgraded this weekend and the dealer and district rep said NOT to upgrade the early build versions because they make the system "crash". Here is explanation...

I have been told they are*going to try to put together a*different software upgrade*for the early production 2009 Genesis Sedans with the DIS Nav unit. On the cars that "crashed" the vehicles were down for 4-6 weeks before they got set back to they way they were originally.
*
I just heard back from corporate and your Genesis falls into the range of the vehicles that should not be updated. If done it will cause failure of the nav system equivalent of a computer crashing. Thanks so much for your patience and if you ever have any other questions don't hesitate to ask.

Now I'm confused. A Nov09 build would apply to 2010 models. Is this problem related to 2009 and early build 2010's?

My new head unit was installed today. The Nav Version is 4.30.2010

This map update must be selective. My dealer tells me there is no map update for the 2010 Genesis. My 2010 Genesis 4.6 has the 2009 map.Map Soft tells me that there is an update. I called a dealer in another state and they said no map update for the 2010 Genesis. My dealer did say that there may be a map update the first part of the year. If you have a 2010 map version in your 2010 Genesis just consider yourself lucky.

Also 2011 models.

I have a 2011 V8 and had the car at the dealer for 4 days to perform the map update and it crashed. They took out a head unit from another 2011 V8 and replaced it temporarily until the back-ordered unit with the new software arrives.

I am #22 on the B.O. list...

All good info, but I still am somewhat confused because my map version format (2.08.14) seems different than all others posted here, such as 4.30.2010, which is perfectly clear because it is a date.

On the version line there is a long number. The 4.30.09 is just part of the string. The other person may have put the beginning part, or has a totally different version, model year, V6 vs V8, etc. than mine
