  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I suspect few here actually are ordering their G70's, but to those that are, I have a question. I ordered mine in late January of this year. I understand with this virus, production has been off and on and reduced/delayed. Still, my dealer is having little success with getting info as to when I can expect it to be built.. let alone delivered. And actually, he's saying he's not even getting any new ones in. He's been told that my order is at the top of the list.... and that's been the status since mid March!

So my question is, are any of you in the same situation? Are you hearing any details? Honestly, and I'm not threatening my dealer, but I'm going to explore going the Audi A4 route, as I was torn between the Audi and the G70. I'm getting up there, and yes, months are going by. My dealer didn't blame me a bit for doing so, and understood and did little to discourage me from exploring options. Though, he obviously wanted me as a customer. He's frustrated as well. He also mentioned that he's calling GV80 buyers that they won't see there rides till maybe October vs June!

Whats special about the trim/color you are ordering? Curious why you are going that route instead of a dealer trade

I see you live in Northville. I think there are a few Genesis dealers in a 30 mile radius and my parents always go to the Southfield location. When I was deciding to get a G70, I had my heart set on a Himalayan Grey 3.3 with the red stitching. I searched the dealer inventories online for about a month and could not find one anywhere within the entire state of California. Once I reached out to @r_spec and received a Circle A certificate, I saw one was available at a dealership about 20 miles away from me. I called them and they indeed had the exact vehicle I was looking for. They told me that the inventory is not always accurate online. I'm not sure if you've reached out to r_spec yet but he's helped numerous people on this forum. One of the underrated aspects of the certificate is it's able to locate the vehicle you're looking for.

Franky, I didn't know you could order cars now a days!

I have looked around. I didn't reach out to r spec route. I wanted a Prestige, M blue, brown Interior AWD 3.3. Nothing really outlandish. I and my dealer did look around. None in the area. Maybe there were some out there that would have added an additional delivery charge.. like $1000. Keep in mind, back in Jan, the virus was a non-issue and we figured it would be normal delivery time. And back then I was OK with waiting a bit. Of course, first SKorea went down a bit due to China, but they figured out supply issue and got back up. Then virus hit SK and who knows after that.

Maybe my dealer or I missed seeing my desired combo out there, but the issue still remains. Genesis is either having issues to produce a product.. for whatever reason, or my dealer is getting hosed. They really aren't getting any new inventory.

Man I thought for sure you were exaggerating on how hard it was to find, but I ran a nationwide search on Cargurus and it is indeed a rare spec. Closest I came was this RWD in Tulsa:

New Genesis G70 for Sale in Little Neck, NY - CarGurus

When I was shopping I wanted the exact same car but with white interior (brown wasn't available). I must have just lucked out because there were two within 50 miles of me.

You can't with Genesis USA unlike with some other manufactures. What the dealers do is request the specific model/trim/color/etc. in their allocation and most times Genesis will fulfill that request if the car exists at a port or possibly at another dealer.

I no longer special order cars, or buy from dealer trade. I now must see and test drive the EXACT same car I want to buy. I’ve been burned in the past with the car not being exactly as advertised (brochure says specs can change without notice) , or small (or large) defects (oh, our Svc Dept can take care of that but then can’t fix). Sure, you say that you can refuse the car, however the dealer has your deposit and no matter what your dealer tells you, you may have a very hard time getting your deposit back, if ever. You may end up taking it home despite manufacturing changes or defects/imperfections.

Only buy the exact car you see and test drive.

I think it depends on the car. With most Asian cars it's totally conceivable and possible to find the exact spec you want. Try doing that with a Porsche, where the amount of option configurations is damn near infinite.

I guess I'm in the minority. I haven't read a post from anyone in my situation....waiting on a specific trimmed out G70.

As for "ordering," I'm just fortunate to be able to afford what I like. So, if I can request what I like, I don't see a downside. And FWIW, I've been fussy on my vehicles for decades and have yet bought a vehicle off the lot (though I've tried.) So far, every one has met or exceeded my specs. Maybe I've just been fortunate. And, I've had, Benz, Infiniti, Acura, Audi, Toyota, Olds and even a Chevy. To each their own.

That's more or less how it goes down. It's from the dealer's allocation. But they made sure that my configuration in that allocation.

To anyone following along, I caved a bit today. Was about an hour away from checking out the A4 with the spouse and the Genesis Sales Rep tells me some bad news. (I' won't get into here.) But after a few moments, I flipped and I'm going with same car but in Adriatic Blue. A shade darker than I'd like, but I'll be driving in it on Monday. Now I've got to keep busy so these hours don't drag till then!

I had a first and second choice exterior color. All other colors and options were not for negotiation. First choice color was difficult to find and long distance negotiation unsatisfactory. Second choice color was here, now. Bird, hand, et cetera.

Congrats! It probably wouldn't have hurt to check out the A4 though anyway  .

I checked it out back in January, but not with the wife. So, this was for her tacit approval. Since I owned an A3, I had some familiarity with the line. But the A4 got a refresh for 2020, or I wouldn't have even put it on my short list in the first place. I had a group of 4 or so and the G70 came out on top. I have a bias against some brand, and maybe misconceptions with others that put the G on top. I'm smiling! Come on Monday!!!!

It's important! I tell my wife that after myself, she is the person I want to like my car.

I was dead set on my configuration (3.3t rwd prestige, Mallorca Blue with light grey interior) and could not believe how hard it was to find one and unwilling most dealers were to find one for me. I’m in Nashville and I ended up buying one from Arizona and have it shipped. Coming from a custom ordered BMW, with BMW actually encouraging custom orders and even reserving some options and colors to custom orders, that was a change. Little things that tell me that a genesis still has some things to learn about the luxury market.

Was this recently? This Covid thing jammed alot up. I would think the "ordering" route would be easier for Genesis since they have it set as packages as opposed to multiple individual add ons. I know when I did my Audi, I could add almost every option of next level package. But, there was a point where it would make sense to get that next level up package/configuration. With my Benz (GLC), it was more like Genesis than Audi... not as many options to pick from. So much so, we were able to find one in Minn. and they shipped it to MI. Genesis would charge for that distance (at least the dealer I was going through) while Benz did not. The other thing to remember is the number of units shipped to the US. I don't think the numbers are as great as those others.

Still, I think a lot can ride on how aggressive the dealer wants to be AND maybe where they fall in the pecking order vs. other dealers. The bigger dogs do have pull to make things happen easier.
