  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm a new owner coming from an BMW M5. Got a few comments and questions for the forum members. I have 2011 4.6 sedan. First impression wasn't to good. The seats suck. I drove mine back from Florida and had to go to the ER. The navagation systems sucks (BMW wasn't any better) I was told that they have an update for $100. Has anyone got the update and did it help? Milage is great went to 30MPG from 9.5MPG. Is there any way defeat the nanny as it is now it is way to controlling. I'll drive it a bit and see if it grows on me.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Read the manual for all the seat adjusments. The driver's seat adjusts is many many different ways. Have you read the 400 plus pages of the DIS manual?

Nanny is really bad either all off or all on, both ways blow.

It could have just my bad back acting up. The car was a CPO. I asked if all the manuals were there and they said yes. When I checked the glove box when I got it home all that was there was the owners manual. I tried the dealership and customer service and they said they only make enough manuals for cars built, no extra's. They did send me all the manuals on a memory stick but they aren't any where near as useful as the original manuals. I wasn't to happy about that.

Yeah I think I'm going to miss that feature along with the launch control.

A dealer can order the manuals for you, but I just use the pdf on the computer or on my Android phone when in the car or out of town. A pdf is fast since a word search makes it easy to find info. My wife has the manuals in her ipad which goes with her all the time in the car.

I tried my local dealer and he said he can't get them. I have the owners manual, how much memory do the other 3 manuals take up on an android?

so how would you compare the genesis with the M5?

About 50MB. I have a 16 gig card in my android.

Why did you buy the Genesis if you hate everything about it?

Interesting question...perhaps he did not drive one!

He admitted above that maybe the seat is not the problem, and that maybe it was his recurring back problem acting up again. I have driven fairly long distances and find the seats very comfortable. Obviously, if the seat or lumbar is not adjusted properly, it could be uncomfortable for some.

I owned a 2006 M5. the 2010 is the same as the 2006 except it has the nav HD instead of the DVD.

Styling- I think it is a draw.

cost- Genesis, BMW not even close.

Maitenance cost- Genesis, BWW not even a close last.

Warranty- Genesis

Electronic aids, ie. adaptive cruise control, rear veiw camera- Genesis

fuel consumption- Genesis, best a 30MPG, M5, best 11.0(I beat the hell out out of it, red line shifts normal)

HP- M5,503 Genesis 385

tranny- BMW, the 7 speed SMG was nothing short of fantastic.

interior- BMW, but to be fair we are talking 40K to 100k

doing the repairs by your self- Genesis

cost of parts- Genesis

crash protection- BMW, crashed mine at 130MPH and walked away without a scratch. A dam deer got on the track.

brakes- BMW

Insurance- BMW, beleive it or not.

exhaust sound- M5, the only thing that comes close is a F1 car.

Fun to drive- M5 for now, need more seat time in the 4.6

sound system- BMW

Handling- M5

wow factor from my son- M5

JBO was right. First time I drove one was when I picked it up in Florida and drove it to Iowa. FYI a half hour test drive is not a good reference. Look at my post on how I think they compare in this thread.

have the same issue with the genesis seats. I have a bad lower back also and took awhile to get a comfy position with the genesis seats. My previous cars were also bmw's, most recent were my 545i and x5. 545i with comfort seats cant be beat, was amazing comfort. x5 had sport seats, little stiffer but amazing comfort again. I think with a little bit more control of the lumbar support and longer thigh support the genesis seats would be alot more comfortable.

Cars and wives ... all same!

+1 to the seat complaints. BMW seats are probably the best in the world. They are better than MB, Infiniti, Audi, Lexus, Lincoln, Volvo, etc... every other car I have significant seat time in. So, comparing Genesis seats to a BMW is not really fair to the Genesis. I would put the Genesis seats mid-pack of the luxury brands. I think they are behind Audi, Infiniti, and MB, but I put them ahead of Lexus, Lincoln, and Volvo. (My mom rejected the Lexus LS 460 on the basis of its seats, but her comparison was a BMW 7 Series, and she has back issues.)

That said, with a little work, I got my Genesis to a comfortable position. My back is fine, so seats do not bother me as much as they may others. I wish it had better thigh support, and I wish the upper back were adjustable. Also, there is an intangible, like maybe the curve or shape of the seat back that isn't exactly right.

Add Acura and Cadillac to your list of cars with bad seats. I agree that BMW seats are very good.

I have a bad lower back also, and have been pleasantly surprised at the Genesis seats. Perhaps my height - 5-8 has something to do with my being able to get comfortable in the car and others not. It's as comfortable to ride in (driver's seat) as my wife's Volvo and my 5-Series was. Of course the Genesis could use more side bolstering and less Greyhound Bus seating.
