  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Model Type
2G Genesis Sedan (2015-2016)
Just bought my 2015 genesis signature series today. I absolutely love it, but when I got it home I realized there is a problem with the panoramic roof and sunshade. The sunshade dosnt fully roll up which I think is the reason the roof dosnt fully open and when it opens it'll go back to open then close automatically also the controll buttons seem to be doing opposite, I press the close direction and it opens, and the open button on the roof sunshade seems to do nothing.

You'll find that the moonroof is the weak point of the Genesis. Take it to the dealer for warranty repair.

Is this covered under factory warranty? 2015 with 50k miles

Yes. Warranty is 5years/60,000miles. And I wouldn't be surprised if Hyundai helped even outside warranty.

Thanks guess I'll schedule a checkup lol

Unfortunately, this is not covered under the 5/60k warranty. I had to have mine adjusted because one of the seals were off track. I believe it is 1yr/unlimited miles for that. I paid $52 for the adjustment when i had only 37k miles on it. Check out the limited warranty in the manual, you'll be surprised as to what it doesn't cover. Hopefully your electronics are fine...

Unreal! I had no clue this wasn't covered! I'd still take the car in and try to get it covered.

if you just bought the vehicle from a Hyundai Dealership, I would take them to task on fixing on their dime, kind of crappy to sell a vehicle with and obvious issue.

if it wasn't a Hyundai dealership, I would still talk to them about fixing on their dime.

There appears to be a reset procedure in the manual:

Resetting the Sunroof Sunroof needs to be reset if (in the followings) - Battery is discharged or disconnected or the related fuse has been replaced or disconnected. - The one-touch sliding function of the sunroof does not normally operate.
1. Turn the Engine Start/Stop button to the ON position and close the sunroof completely.
2. Release the control lever.
3. Pull and hold the control lever forward until the sunroof tilts and slightly moves up and down. Then, release the lever.
4. Pull and hold the control lever forward until the sunroof is operated as follows; TILT DOWN → SLIDE OPEN → SLIDE CLOSE
Then, release the control lever.

I would as well. But, when buying a used car, the buyer needs to check EVERYTHING and was probably something the OP did not check. The dealership is not obligated to fix it unless they serve a service contract or they are nice people. Hope he fixes it

obligation depends on the situation..

reputable used car lot with a "30-day" dealer warranty (which is common in CA) yes they are obligated.
CPO car, yes they are obligated.
Hole in the wall Joe's Blow's used car lot, better hope the VIN matches and the car isn't stolen or a repo..

I tried this with the engine running, should it just be in acc mode?
Is that pull down and forward for both 3 and 4? Or just press it straight forward towards the windshield

I read it as in acc

And forward. Not down. Though it should say push forward IMO. Translated owners manual I suspect.

So you close the roof release the bottom until it is closed then push and hold the button as if you are closing it again, and you hold the button until the tilt cycle up down completes then release, Then repeat until the second cycle completes

My statements were made off of what the OP had written. No where does he mention that it is a CPO car or that they gave him a service contract for an allotted amount of time (3day/300 mi, which ever they have). Used car lots that promote a warranty will have fine print just like an original manufacturer does so who knows what or if he is covered.

Moon roof are the weak points on nearly every make. The moon roof drain tubes leaks in most makes or the motors goes bad. If i am buying a used car I usually try to avoid models with moon roofs, however it hard to do that now a days since you will have to buy a stripped down model to avoid a moon roof.

Now I just test the moon roof function when buying a used car and never open it again unless to vent, but never open the glass panel fully.

I had a Hyundai dealership (not where I bought the car) fix mine outside of the 1 year mark. No issues getting them to replace part of the sunroof and all the seals.

They gave you a break so good on them. They were not required to do that

This may have been Hyundai corporate. There may be a hidden campaign on the moonroof.

Could be since a lot of folks have issues with them. Not just with Hyundai, Kia uses the same technology in some of their cars including the Optima and Stinger.

My roommate had similar problems with his VW Tiguan.
