  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Model Type
1G Genesis Sedan (2009-2014)
So I come from a drag racing background but now approaching 40 was looking for a large 4dr sporty car for my long commute.

I actually had no idea what a Genesis even was until a week ago when I started looking for a new car. Lucky for me I stumbled across this leased one owner '13 R Spec 5.0 with just over 40k miles.

So far I'm impressed with just about everything about the car. Haven't made my mind up on whether I want to model it yet but a CAI and exhaust seems appealing. One thing I haven't been able to find much about is tuning options.

Anyhow glad to be here and look forward to contributing where I can and learning a bunch.

Heres a couple photos even though you guys have probably seen them all...

Photos are blocked, but welcome! And enjoy the ride!

A CAI is really pointless as there isn't much room to drop the intake low enough to pull in cold air.
Exhaust won't give you much as our stock system is pretty free flowing.

Secondary cat deletes are available
Magnaflow and Borla make a catback or go custom.
There is a BTR tune for sale in the for sale forum. It's quit a bit of money for not much gain.

Exhaust mod and maybe reduction pulleys may be the best bag for the buck. All others are throwing your money away on the very good 5.0. Best to clean injectors and carbon out of the direct injection system.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I appreciate the responses.

I guess I'll just try to keep it well maintained and enjoy it for what it is.

Come spring I do plan on taking it to the strip once just to see what it does. Over the years I've had freakish luck with stock car 1/4 ET's.

I still think a modest exhaust might be nice just for sound as long as you dont lose anything power wise. I definitely dont want it to sound like these guys on YouTube that are just straight piping.

I am about 10 months into my first Genesis, and just absolutely love the car. I am sure it will treat you well!

Here is how my E63 AMG sounds in stock. This is not my car but a video of same stock year and model. Maybe this type of sound is what you may go for.

Continuing with the "new owner" theme, what brand engine oil do you guys use? Theres a sticker under the hood mentioning that Quaker State is suggested by Hyundai. I'm a Mobil 1 guy myself so....

Also what kind of gas do you guys generally use? It says in the manual that using 87 is acceptable but that better performance may be had from using a higher octane. Any truthfulness to this more so than the general notion with any other vehicle?

Mobil 1 is good, many 5.0 owners use it. I use Pennzoil plat Euro 5w40 in my E63AMG. I have used Valvoline Synpower for years and never an oil related problem with any engine in 30+ years.

The sticker says Quaker State because they have a marketing deal with Hyundai/Genesis. Any major brand is good, stick with Mobil 1 if you like it.

The octane depends on the engine. Some will get a slight performance increase with 93. Try a couple of tanks and see if it is worth the money. For normal driving you won't see a difference, for more spirited driving you may.

@JonsGen

I don't know if '13 R-Spec has sport mode, but I installed SprintBooster on my 2011 4.6 and it makes huge difference in throttle response.

And, welcome to the forum.

Enjoy it for what it is and muddle through with 429 hp.

Hey there welcome!
