  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Model Type
Genesis G80
Finally swapped out my 2015 G80 for a 2019 G70 3.3 T with only 120 miles on it. Smells new.
Obviously a completely different car. Giving up some smoothness on rough surfaces and quietness for much better handling.
Only problem is that the driver's seat and wheel exit/entry feature doesn't work and I posted that in the technology section.

A few points and comments.

My last turbo was the classic, Toyota Supra (1993) . This was only a 3.0T , but it was way far quicker than this car. Not sure if it weighed much less. Does this make any sense? Higher engine compression?

I was told that on that car, I should not kick in the turbo until the oil heats up and let the oil cool off a little with idle mode before turning the engine off to avoid coking. Are these rules still in effect with this obviously more modern turbo?

Am I supposed to use 91 grade gas in this car as recommended? What's the downside for using regular? Turbo damage?

Do you really have to change the oil every 3000 miles? I was told synthetic lasts at least 6000 and that's the change. I was doing on my Toyota . They also recommended changing the oil after about 300 miles to eliminate break in grinding debris. I don't see this in the manual, but do you think it's a good idea?

Overall, very happy with this car. Not sure why people are paying more for a BMW or Audi.

i only use 91 or more in my g70. I don’t think lower octane will hurt anything but the engine will pull a little bit of timing and you won’t get the full power the car is capable of stock without it I would assume. I’ve never tested it myself tho.
And my only comment is people pay more for an Audi and bmw cause they are much better. I’m not saying faster by any means although some are serious monsters when it cones to it but the quality of there interior in my opinion is a bit better than the g70. I have one of the top tier packages I believe and I’ve been in a couple s models and a 440 I m sport. To me it was no comparison that they were laid out. Better and felt more comfy. Just my opinion. I would get an m5 f90 or even an rs5 if they were in my price range lol

As to the oil change interval, I think 3000 miles is the "severe duty cycle." Honestly unless you're tracking the car to work and back every day, 6000 miles is the norm.

As for the turbo, modern turbos are less finicky. Obviously don't beat on the car when its cold (as with any car). I believe the engine also oils the turbo once you start it up (you can see it on the boost gauge), so I always make sure to wait about 30 seconds after a cold start to start driving, even gently.

With respect to the competition, I drove a new 3 series back to back with the Genesis, and was not impressed enough to pursue buying one. Part of that might have been the fact that the 330 was a turbo 4 and the Genesis was a turbo 6 though. Even so, they were comparably priced and the features and design on the Genesis (quilted leather, alcantara headliner, cooled seats) definitely made it feel more upmarket than the BMW, which seemed spartan by comparison.

I did once test drive a C-class, however, and MB's interior design and materials are definitely top notch.

Thanks to all, but can anyone explain why my old 3.0 TT Supra would smoke this G70 3.3? I don't think it weighs much less

About 500 pounds depending on options. Gearing may be different too.

What’s the 0-60 on your Supra? I doubt it would smoke the 3.3 at 4.5 seconds. Maybe your gearing or lower end boost makes it feel faster but actually isnt

Okay, if that's the case, I'm to take out the rear seats and anything else I can think of to lighten it .
I really miss my supra, got 210,000 miles out of it with a complete engine/t turbo/transmission change but the entire car started falling apart .
Once my wife was messing with the tuning knob on the radio and I told her to stop. When she didn't I floored it and it threw her back into her seat .I could pass people so quickly that it would frighten them, and they would yell at me with their brights. I wonder how much quicker a true European exotic was than this car

If you’re taking out seats you bought the wrong car. Did you not notice it felt slower on the test drive? The 93 Supra was fast AF even compared to modern cars

Maybe being a manual made a difference, but I just remember a jolt when I floored it that I do not get in my G70

That jolt you felt was the fact that those supras had massive turbo lag and made full power around 4500 rpm all at once. The G70 is smoother by comparison throughout the rev range making someone used to ALL the boost at once feel like it’s slower

No need to remove seats. My g70 is full weight (maybe more actually) and it almost runs 11s.

I think it's a few things:
1. Weight. 500 pounds is not insignificant
2. Gearing
3. Tuning- Genesis cars are tuned to preserve the transmission on launch

If you want to speed things up a bit, there are tuning options available.

Were you the original owner of the Supra? Those cars had potential from the factory and there's a bunch of aftermarket 'things' available to tweak the performance.

Things, indeed. Lots of Supra's out there with crazy tri-turbo 1000hp setups.

I bet even falling apart with 200k miles, someone still paid a pretty penny for it.

I paid $17 k used with 40K miles and sold it 6 years later for $23k.I think the movie Fast and Furious did it. And yes, I had some minor modifications from a speed shop but they were disappointed I didn't go with their proposal of nitrous and single turbo for 700 HP.
They replaced the CAT with a downpipe and that made a big difference but every time I had to get is smogged, I had to drive 100 miles to them to put the CAT back in, smog it and then take it out again,

Anyone know someone in So. California that would do this for my current car? I do not live in a large city so some extra pollution in not an issue for the area.

It’s not wise to go catless in this platform. Quite a few cars that have are over boosting. Now there is a fix out to help combat this issue but it requires the ewg plugs from jb4

Guy that bought my wife's WRX drove up in his Supra. That thing is an awesome car. Just about 700hp to the wheels.

His car would destroy my G70. Maaaybe I could get him on the launch, but once he hooked up there would be no way I could keep up. Lol.
