New owner, super bumpy ride - sport prestige

I’ve had my GV70 about 3 weeks now, and I cannot seem to find a happy medium with the smoothness (or lack thereof) of the ride.

Specs:
-Bought certified pre-owned 2023 SP 4-cylinder with about 8400 miles. I went in to get the advanced but the markdown on the price made this too good to pass up
-has standard 21” tires (maybe the problem?)
-tires were slightly overinflated, with front at 39 and back at 42. I let some air out and noticed an immediate difference but still not the quality I’m expecting in a luxury car

I Took it to the dealer and they said the right strut needs replacing, which they are going to do under warranty, but the bumpiness seems to exist beyond just that side. Is this normal? Should I be pressing them more for a deeper look or smaller tires?

Also, I’m coming from a BMW X3. I know the suspensions are vastly different so I try not to compare too much, but even when I had a Hyundai sonata it wasn’t this bumpy

I found the 21" wheels quite harsh when I was test driving the 3.5T and that was actually the basis for me to decide not to buy a Genesis. Later on, I heard about the 2.5T SP - in Canada it has 19" wheels. I took that for a drive and I bought it because the ride was significantly better. I'm sticking with the 19" wheels...not sure if that is the only difference but I sure noticed it.

I currently have the 21s but drove a loaner with 19s for a few weeks and could not tell much of a difference. Only the miles per gallon was a difference.

Maybe those of you that rode on 21s and say they ride hard had the incorrect tire pressure in them as the 21s should have 35psi in the front and 39psi in the rear. Even my family that drives luxury cars say my truck drives smooth on the 21s.

I'm really sensitive to it...and our roads are terrible here. I checked the pressure on the instrument panel when I test drove because I thought it was wrong...but it was good.

I will say the roads in my neighborhood were re-paved less than a year and are super smooth now. When I go over speed bumps or train tracks the truck does shake vigorously which is expected.

I agree with some others, where I've tested both the 19" and 21" rims on the 2.5T. I prefer the 19" rims as they are noticeably better. Now Genesis is pushing more 21" rims starting in 2024 (in the US), requiring it for the 3.5T Sport Advanced, so that's quite disappointing. I think I'm leaning towards the Mercedes GLC as they have a la carte options to include tire size.

One of the main reasons for choosing the 2023 gv70 2.5T advance trim was the 19 inch wheels and normal tires.. the sales rep told me the 21 inch rims / low profile rubber on the SP ‘trim would be worse mpg and slightly worse ride quality plus the low profile rubber much more $$ to replace ..

Worse MPG in 21 inch wheels, first I’ve heard of wheel size affecting fuel economy? Tire compound/makeup and 21 inch wheels affecting ride quality/harshness, yes, makes sense. My 19 inch low profile tires require careful attention to avoid pot holes and bumps for they are harsher than the 18 inch wheels I was used to in my Infiniti. Not sure I would like a 21 inch wheel at all if that is multiplied again from the 19’s. Too bad choices don’t exist on wheels if you order the car.

Yeah, I was told - and seen in reviews since - that there is a 3 MPG hit going from 19" to 21" wheels. Not sure if that is what people see in regular driving life...probably not a lot of people going between 19 and 21 though - maybe for winter?

Interesting. I also have the 3.5TT Prestige and don’t find the ride quality harsh or tiresome. Our local roads are acceptable but not great (in the snow belt, which leads to recurrent issues). I can’t deactivate it to know for sure, but the adaptive suspension likely helps. I spend 90% of my time in “comfort“ mode. Things tighten up in “Sport/Sport+”, and I wouldn’t use that as my daily driving mode.

In the winter, I swap for 19-inch wheels with Bridgestone Blizzak snow tires. The ride is more forgiving and compliant (expected with a taller sidewall and softer rubber), but I prefer how it drives/feels on 21-inch wheels/all seasons.

Definitely too much air go down to 34psi cold and when driving they should warm up a bit to 36psi lil bit of air change on those low pro tires goes a long ways I felt the stock recommended pressure was a bit much so been running that from day one and tires wear great now have 30k miles on it and alot of life left in the tires

I first test drove the 3.5T with the 21" wheels and found it unacceptable - I eliminated the GV70 from my shopping list. I went back a few weeks later and asked to test out the 19" 2.5T (which is an option here in Canada for '23) and I bought it because it was much smoother/better ride.
