  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

New Owner

My window sticker said r-spec mats. The dealer didnt have any in stock so they ordered me a set. So where did the original mats go? Someone had to switch them out for the regular mats at some point.

The salesman I was dealing with was a really nice guy but like most car salesmen, he didnt know too much about cars. Younger guy no older then 25 I would say. But one thing that really annoyed me was when he was showing me the navigation. He didnt know it wasnt a touch screen and kept trying to touch the screen.

My R Spec came with the correct mats.

My Salesman was a great guy. Older guy who knew the car inside and out. He'd studied the manual. Told me if I ever had any questions about how anything worked, just drop by the shop and they would help me out.

Funny thing is, when we went to look at the car at this dealer, I had already done a few test drives at other dealers, he went to take us out for a test drive. He drove it off the lot to make sure everything was good then pulled over to let me drive. I told him that was Ok. I was sitting in the back seat, wife in the front. I asked the wife if she wanted to drive and she declined as well. My salesman said he had never driven the R Spec so I told him to drive us around some as I had already driven one. The wife had not been with me when I did my test drives so this was more for her to see if she liked the car. He enjoyed the fact that I let him drive the car for a while since he never had the chance before.

He also spent about an hour after the sale showing us a lot of the basics and also setting up our phones for the blue tooth connect.

Customer Service and Product Knowledge; two things that have become so rare today that it is truly a beautiful thing to see and experience when you run into a sales rep that understands and executes on both counts.

But lets face it, most of us on this board do not need a salesman anyway; we need a order taker. We know more about the vehicles than the salesman trying to sell them a vast majority of the time.

How true this is. I'm the kind of person who does their research before even stepping on the car lot. Funny thing is, I kind of got blindsided with the Genney. I was talked into stopping at a dealership and saw a beautiful black R Spec on the show room floor. So I went and did some research and now I own one. Otherwise I would have never considered a Hyundai. But glad I did.

Crusty, your salesman is a rarity. I agree with Vermillion3, most of us know more about the car than the salesperson. Sad when you consider they don't have that many models.

One of the saddest things is the general lack of mechanical knowledge in our "consumer" society. My own nephew wouldn't know a turbocharger or clutch friction plate if you dropped one on his foot. Car culture is just not what it once was. My brother was even considering buying a VW bug so we could pull the engine and put it together again to learn about cars/engines! The typical sales person has a similarly lacking education. One thing I have noticed is that the women sales persons are frequently more knowledgeable than the men.

LOL!... I know you didn't mean it, but that's totally sexist. Sorta like back in the day when my old man said "Colin Powell speaks very articulately for a black man."

I don't know that women sales reps are more knowledge about the product but they sure are easier on the eyes and ears ......most of the time. :p The woman that handled my purchase would not have know a Genny from a Sonata.

Actually I understand the sexist comment, but you have it backward. I have found that in the automotive world women usually seek it out and study. The men just "need a job." Sales people at least. This is a comment based on legitimate experience, not prejudice. Also I regret that we have become so stupidly P.C. that we can't accept that men and women ARE different. Returning to the original comment, while it isn't always true I have found that the women I know in the automotive world WANT to be there.
